Depending on when you get the squealing you could have a low or bad tire. Or you could have a loose or worn fan belt. The other possibility is that you have an alternator, water pump, or other component in the drive belt system that has a bad bearing or is starting to lock up. You need to check these to find the problem then you would be able to correct the proper thing. Good luck!

Most likely the fan belt or altenator belt, open the bonnet / hood and see if you can see the belts moving round, does it seem to get louder when you rev the engine? and then stop at times if so then 99% its the fan belt. if it still persits it could be the water pump so take a look under the car to see if any water is dripping out, if it is the water pump dont use the car as it could destroy the engine.

Hope that helps

Dan

Volt meter reading low squealing sound very loud

The squealing noise is a warning (you must have a murphy type gauge). Once the low voltage problem is solved the squealing will stop.

2000 montero sport: There's a loud squealing noise coming from the engine. What could be wrong?

Squealing is most common with loose or worn belts, I would start by replacing the drive belt on the front of the motor and go from there, Its easier to troubleshoot a squealing motor if you know that the belt or belts are good.

Went off roading now have a pulley squealing cleaned it and sprayed lubricant still squealing?

You should re-clean the pulleys again and dry them, but do not spray any lubricant on the pulleys. This can cause the belt to slip, causing the squealing noise. If that doesn't help, Check to see if the tensioner is bad.

Squealing sound when I turn on the air conditioner in the car

It sounds to me like its a loose compressor belt that gets hot and stops, have it tightened or replaced if its old and brittle. could also be the compressor going bad,

My 97 tercel has also starting squealing when cold-but only when I reverse.

Squealing, like a belt? I've found that the alternator belt has to be super-tight or else it squeals. It's a pain in the **** to torque the alternator sideways enough to tighten the belt.

If it is a belt, you could also buy some belt dressing spray and see if that helps. It's pretty cheap stuff per can.

Squealing from the front of the car some times.

If the squealing changes in pitch with the speed of the motor it is likely the belt squealing. While the belt is removed, check the tensioner and other pulleys for unusual noise when spinning them by hand.

Squealing noise

check all pulleys. and also, check the air conditioner compressor. it may need to be serviced. the compressor can make a squealing noise at times if the bearings are bad. make sure the tension is correct as well.
