Question about 2001 Ford Escape

I reinstalled my timing chains on the escape 2001. Once the required temp. of engine is reached, a rattle or rough idle of engine can be heard inside the cabin.First i thought the valve lifters, but their OK. Can someone give advice or idea what to look for.

Double check your timing. Make sure that your belt is tight, and not over tightened, make sure that any bolts the you took out are put back in correctly. Those would be your only issues that I could think of.

May be that the PCM has not relearned the idle trim. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature then drive 10 miles. That should be enough for the PCM to set idle trim. If you continue to have problems may be that one of the timing chains is off by one tooth.

One thing that will make any engine run rough at idle is a vacuum leak. An easy way to check for leaks would be to spray starting fluid or WD 40 around the intake manifold and double check the vacuum hoses that they are connected where they belong.

What would cause a rough idle when cold and at idle but runs great once warm

I'd be pulling the spark plugs and checking for condition, gap, fouling, etc.

2001 estima t idles rough when started

Hi, if it sounds like a tractor and is feeling rough and less powerful than normal, my guese is the timing chain guide (possibly top guide) has come loose. If you can get van over a pit, on jack stands or on hoist and while engine is running, the noise will be louder at front of engine by the timing chain housing, you could also feel the guides rattling, hence the tractor noise. As the engine is revved to higher RPM's the chain vibrates faster and the guide is forced off the chain so the noise lesson's. Parts are available, but before ordering parts you will have to disassemble timing chain housing and check the guide bolt thread on engine side are not threaded, otherwise re-threading the hole and finding the right bolts to fit guide plates can be a nightmare, but you can use helicoil, which expensive but effective. Check also the housing, it may have wear marks due to guides rubbing on it which is not a problem, but as oil circulates through it you wouldnt want it to leak out.
Hope this helps.

P0508 code on 2001 Honda CR-V how do I troubleshoot

Hello,

P0508 = Idle Air Control System Circuit Low

Symptoms:
Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - Engine hard to start - Rough or erratic idle speed.

Causes:
Dirty throttle body - Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged - Faulty Electric throttle control actuator - Intake air leak - Poor electrical connection to the Intake Air Control (IAC) valve.

Solution:
If there are no intake leaks, clean throttle body, adjust engine idle and erase engine code. If the code comes back you may have to replaced the Electric Throttle Control Actuator (Motor) to repair the problem.

I hope this helps!

Mike

Timing CHAIN tensioner you mean? Better have that noise checked ASAP. It may be a problem with the timing chain.

well they dont have a timing belt they have a timing chain which is nice but i would take it to a mechanic with a ford scan tool to diagnose it its really hard to diagnose these newer vehicles over the net these days! it could be so many things from throttle position sensor to rev limiter issue!
