Question about Volvo S80

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Volvo s80. I bought 4 used tires and had to upgrade to 225/60/16(from a 225/55/16) tires because that was the only tires the dealership had used (I wanted 4 cheap tires). As soon as I picked the car up and drove off the lot and started to accelerate the tire slipping light came on in my dash, this is the STC warning light, and I was pushing the accelerator and the car was not accelerating. The past couple days this has been occasionally happening when I am going about 20-30 mph. This does not happen all the time usually just within the first 10 minutes of driving, then it will not happen again. When it does happen the RPM's do not rev up like the car is in neutral when the gas is pushed, the RPM's stay normal and I just coast until the tires start accelerating again when the gas is pushed. It is kind of like the gas pedal has been disabled because of some warning going off in the computer. I usually let of the gas and wait for the STC warning light to stop blinking and then try to accelerate. Any thoughts what this could be? Is this a speed sensor malfunction?

I have tried to research where this speed sensor is but have not found any information on it. I am sure I have to remove the wheel to find this correct? If I remove the wheel will I find a sensor connected somewhere around the wheel? Where is this sensor and wiring? Are there sensors on both wheels? Thanks

Ok, I have an code scanner for the car. I may see if that picks up anything. Could one of the sensors have a lose connection?

Yes you most likely have a speed sensor issue probably from one of the wheel speed sensors check wiring and connections at wheels

you have a wheel speed sensor at each wheel.the only real way to see what is going on is to have a scan tool on vehicle and monitor the speed sensors and see if one is dropping out, causing the traction to activate. you woill most likely have to take the wheels off to see sensors or have on a lift.

Have 4 codes P0306 P1181 P0141 P0136 is there easy fix? Also vibration at high speeds and passenger aide in front sounds like humming any ideas 2000 Volvo S80 2.9 Non turbo

There is no "easy fix" as only 2 of the 4 codes are for the same thing...for the P0136 and P0141, its probably a bad Bank 1 sensor 2 oxygen sensor..the P0306 means cylinder 6 is misfiring (it could be bad spark plug, bad coil, bad injector, carbon on valves, low compression) and P1181 is showing a fuel delivery issue high pressure...as for the vibration, have all tires checked for balance and hum on passenger side is possibly a bad wheel bearing...and and all is best to have checked by your mechanic.

Emergency fuel door release for 2000 Volvo S80

Copied from Volvo Forums

I had a similar problem w recently bought 2003 S80.Several points: 1) Access your locking selonoid through the trunk interior panel ... loosen a few hex bolts and slide out for maintenance; 2) I fixed my lock by simply using light teflon-based oil (like for bike chains). I exercised it a few times and it works beautifully; 3) Not sure on your model, but gas door on the '03 unlocks when you push the associated release button under the headlight control switch. It is not designed to unlock w the key (again, check owners manual for your year). Hope this helps. master_pre08-04-2007, 09:35 AMYeah, the fuel door on my 2000 S80 is connected with the door locks. In order for it to open you have to unlock all the doors to the car. Sssnake08-14-2007, 03:39 PM Thanks Guys,

I removed the locking mechanism and applied a little silicon graphite and now it works like a charm.

Volvo S80 German to English or Dutch

Hi there,

Most are of the opinion that this can only be done by an authorised Volvo Dealership, by reprogramming the 'option table' to your preferred language.

This should only be a small labor charge, to have them connect the Vidas System an reprogram the Message Centre.

Contact your local Volvo Dealership for a price to have this done.

Cheers,

Not likely a computer glitch. I would not ignore this warning. Have it looked at by a professional.

I have a S80 Volvo 2000 model. I lost my spare key.

Pay the dealer the $300.00. I have been told it's worth it to have an extra set due to the computer communication of the keys with the ignition (not sure how it works exactly.) To re-key or get a new ignition costs like 1600-1800 dollars and takes approximately 10 days to even get the parts. I checked with a Volvo dealership in WA State. I am having problems with my ignition now and the keys won't come out or turn the last little click to be able to pull them out (but not all the time), also my car will turn on no problem (only have trouble getting keys out) my car just won'y go into gear, it seems it happens more frequently when it is below 55 degrees, even after the car temp guage has reached the half way mark. I have a 1999 Volvo S80 (I hate that car!)
