surging is a sign of a vacuum leak. either from a hose which i have had issues with mine. the hose caps were missing or dryrotted and fell off. check the hoses and replace if they are not good. the problem could also be a valve head issue. again a vacuum leak but something you cant see without a bore scope or pulling the heads. so hope its not that. the carbon builds up on the valves and casues the leak and then wont run correctly. sometimes a good fuel additive can break up the carbon and help. good luck

Acts like the transmissions slipping AFTER it gets warm, when its cool it shifts great?

Check you have enough transmission fluid, does it surge when changing up when warm? When checking fluid level run gear shift through gears 3 times to circulate fluid place in park then check level do this with engine running and parking/handbrake on. If you don't run shift through gears before checking level dipstick will give false reading.....usually saying you have enough but when fluid has to circulate there won't be and hence trouble with gear change when hot.

I have a 1994 ford explorer ,it will idle up and down and it surges when driving, during warm months it wont idle good after its getting colder it idles up and down i can cruise 45 mile an hour and never...

When idles surges its due to false air, The MAF (mass air flow) calculates the amount of air and responds to the proper amount of fuel, When you get false air such as a broken PCV valve,or ruptured vacuum hose the idle increases and you get the surge that you are describing,Your basically out of fuel control .

When my 1972 chevrolet 350 4 barrel is warmed up it acts like its not getting gas and jerks and eventually dies. if i wait a few minutes it will start up but after slight acceleration it starts it aga

Good chance it is not getting fuel, or enough fuel.
When the rig is cold, the choke is closed. As it warms up, the choke opens.
If the metering jets inside the carb are dirty, they may not be letting enough fuel into the barrels. You could also have a vac leak that is masked by the choke until the engine warms up.

When it warms up and acts up disconnect the ECT,(coolant temp sensor) it mounted toward the rear of your alternator, see if there is any difference, also inspect the hose at the map sensor make sure its not torn on any ends or kinked,

Starts runs then begins to die under acceleration.

First step, see what it looses, fuel or spark!

Continous surging and stalling

Per your description, I would suspect a fuel pump issue. When the fuel pump is running the pump impeller heats up. On an older pump the impeller can begin to seize up and momentarily stops and starts. Some times it just stops and has to cool down for a couple of minutes, then is ok for a while.
To test this theory, when the engine stalls and stops, your mechanic can use a rubber mallet and hit the bottom of the gas tank, this will free the pump impeller and the car will start again.
Or, have him install a fuel pressure gauge and go for a drive. If the pressure begins to fluctuate and drop, you know the pump is causing the issue.
Good luck, let me know.

You will need to run a fuel pressure test on it to see if your fuel pressure is correct. How many miles are on the car and when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced.

Engine surges when cold - Once it warms up it runs fine

If carburated, I would suspect a sticking choke, making the fuel mix way too rich.
