Question about 1997 Pontiac Sunfire
Have you checked the 20 amp FP/INJ fuse and pump relay? It should be getting a 12 volt command signal from the ECU. See the circuit below. Check to see if the relay clicks when the key is first turned on. You can verify by probing the relay socket with a test light. To check the relay and ignition switch, follow procedures at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check. If you're not sure about the relay itself, you can always swap it with another relay to see if the pump will kick on. You can also check for voltage at the pump connector with a test light. See diagram of your circuit below and picture of relay location. Please let me know if you have questions.
