Question about 1998 Kia Sephia
Everything in my car was working fine but the check engine light came on telling me i needed a tune up to dp the spark plugs
well we replaced the spark plugs in my car and we went to start it and it wouldnt turn over so we went and got a coil pack to replace too htinking that could have been part of them ploblem still same thing wont turn over we
looked in the book to check the spark plugs gapping to make sure that was right and we got it right in the middle of what it said still nothing and we have double more than double checked to make sure everything is where it is suppose to be and it is but the car wont turn over it acts like it wants to but then wont
First check batter voltage to the starter if you have full12 at the starter try bumping the starter with a metal wrench to see if if the starter turns over .big battery wire on the starter to the small terminal were the other smaller wires are tap the wrench and see if it turns over.if it doesn't and the motor doest move pull spark plugs out and make shure there the right ones.if they are longer spark plugs the motor bottoms out on the top of the piston and won't turn over .

Check that you have pushed the spark plug wires fully home on the spark plug. If it's not turning it could be the solenoid that connects the battery to the starter motor when trying to start or simply a flat battery. Check battery first, check solenoid by listening to a click sound, check starter motor for connections check any related fuses.

sounds like the timing belt it has a interference engine so if the timing belt broke you could have bent rods and cracked pistons or worse. good luck

\I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, IT COULD BE A CLOGGED CATALETIC CONVERTER, THE EASIEST WAY TO TEST THIS ,TO ME ANYWAY, IS TO DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST PIPES(COMING OFF THE ENGINE) AND THE CONNECTION TO THE FRONT OF THE CATALETIC CONVERTER, THEN START THE CAR AND SEE WHAT IT DOES, IF THE ENGINE SURGE GOES AWAY(REMEMBER THE CAR WILL BE LOUD) BUT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE ENGINE HEALTH TO GO TO NORMAL, IF IT DOES YOUR CAT IS CLOGGED
