have u also changed the plastic valve that that pipe is connected to located underneath 2-3 allen key bolts easy if u take off throttle body and housing to get to it???

SOURCE: the rev is going up & down on idle & when driving

have you checked your air inlet manifold for any leakages by spraying WD40 around each portall bolted to the cylinderhead gasket,check for vacuum air pipes deterioration.make sure the engine is running first ,then spray WD40 to check that the engine speed should increase.it sounds like your engine is haveing problems breathing due to heavy hydro carbons increasing./and your CO2% is dropping.

GO TO A KRAGEN OR AUTOZONE AND HAVE THEM RUN A TROUBLE CODE TEST, THIS COULD BE A TPS PROBLEM, VACUUM LEAK OR STUCK/WARPED THROTTLE PLATE.

My 4 cylinder 318i e46 bmw starts ok but as soon as it reaches idle rpm it shuts down. the only way to get it to run is to rev the engine to 3,000 to 4,000 a couple of times and then it seems to settl

The Ferrari Mechanic was correct, but you have not yet found the valve. The idle control valve is a small air passageway that bypasses the main throttle plate. You did not say what year of vehicle, but I am assuming it has Fuel Injection since the idle control valve was mentioned. Remove the Throttle body and clean it and all the little air passages in it. Then try. The throttle body is the apparatus between the large rubber air hose and the intake manifold.
