1996 dodge ram 1500 4WD shifts into reverse fine starts off in 1st and will not shift into 2nd gear

Could be as simple as low transmission fluid, but it can also be your shift solenoids or gonked up valve body. Star with checking your transmission fluid level. On that vehicle its pretty simple. There should be a yellow dipstick. Vehicle needs to be on and on operating temperature. Gear selector in P or N. Pull the dipstick out and see what it reads.

I drive a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 Magnum 360 and i have just recently had the tourque converter replaced in it. Last night as i was leaving my girlfriends house i went to back up and when backing up i had...

When a converter fails, many times it will generate fine metal debris that can travel through the transmission, carried by the fluid. When that happens, it can get into seals and cause wear of both the seal and the seal surface on the shaft or drum. It can also get into the pump, valve body and control solenoids. All those items can result in either low pressure condition or pressure mis-application causing slipping or improper gear changes. That is the primary reason that when either the transmission or converter fails, both are generally replaced. (during a trans failure it works the other way and the converter stores debris and if not replaced, it will contaminate the new trans when put back in service). Bottom line is that you need to have at least the valve body cleaned out but more likely you need the unit rebuilt. possible you can have the new converter flushed but best would be to replace it again.

2005 dodge magnum with 2.7 six transmision does not have dip stick to tube for one how do you service to proper level

I assume you are talking about the tranny dipstick. There is none. Most cars built in the 21st century have sealed for life of vehicle, transmissions. Only a dealer can check the fluid level

Remove dipstick, exhaust pipe, left engine to transmission mount, loosen motor mounts & raise engine slightly.(enough to slide pan back out, when ready.) Heard enough yet? Good Luck.

CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID

I believe these have one of the new "sealed transmissions" You don't check the transmission fluid.

They are a "lifetme transmission" when it's life is up and it breaks you pull it for a new one (or dump the car) Dodge is using allot of these

Transmission Dip Stick missing

According to the manual, the dipstick is not included. You have to take it to the dealer if you notice any leaks or a warning light comes on. Go figure !!
