Question about 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo

Open Question

Power Convertible Top

The power convertible on my 1989 Cabriolet seems to have a short or lose wire that makes the top inoperable. The red indicator lite on the dash flashes when I hit a bump and if the indicator light is on the top works, no light and the top doesn't work.

I'm assuming there is a sensor that must activate the indicator light and I'm thinking there must be a bad connection at the sensor. Can anyone provide insights as to what and where to check to troubleshoot?

Thanks much,
Mike

Not sure what the other wires go to, maybe the air bag, regardless all instruments are working on the '89.

SOURCE: My convertible top doesn't work.

The sensors stop it becos there is a problem,.to prevent further damage. The tops are not reliable, and it could be one of a number of problems. The early cables stretch, then only one side is driven and it jams. The plastic balls (red) alos break or come off. Look at Rennsport technical forums amd you will find the answers you need.

Don' try this yourself unless you are VERY confident... I have seen many $500 kits RUINED by amateurs... Go to a shop that has proven experience with Cabrio tops, they are tricky to get just right!

My 2007 Mitsubishi Spyder Convertible top will not open. It appears to be completely closed and locked. Indicator light is on while driving and beeping indicating it is not closed.

it sounds like your motor that opens and closes the top might be going out. with the motor going out it will not send the signal that the top is closed. get the motor for the top checked with a volt meter to see how much power is going to it. if theres a problem with the wiring and its not getting enough power to it, it wouldnt work properly. if it does have enough power goin to it then your motor might be going bad. hope this helps

Hi Gil.Please locate the fuse box in your car that contains the fuses related to these accessories, eg convertible, CD player, lighter, door locks/windows etc.The location of the fuse box would be in the user manual provided with your car.If you donot have a user manual then it should be in under the hood or the dashboard ( behind the glove compartment ).See if the fuse relating to the convertible is OK.If its bad then replace it with a fuse of the same value. If the other fuse too goes bad then you probably have jammed motor of the convertible which is putting extra stress on the fuse, or that your wiring gets short somewhere when you press the button for the convertible to work.If you want to test the switch then simply pull the connectors of the switch from its behind and touch them with eachother if the convertible then works then the switch is bad.Regards.

1996 audi cabriolet 2.8 V6 convertible top motor needs fluid how do i add the fluid to the convertible top motor?! and what type of fluid does it need?

Almost all power convertible tops are electric over hydraulic. The ecectric motor runs a hydraulic pump. The pump pushes fluid to the cylinders that work the top. Most are located behind the rear seat backrest. Either remove the rear backrest or access the motor/pump from the trunl. It will be shaped like a cylinder. At one is the electric motor, at the other end is the hydraulic reservoir. At the end of the reservoir is a rubber plug. With the top down, remove the plug and fill it with tran fluid till it over flows. replace the plug and cycle the top up and down as far as it will go. Repeat the process till it will take no more fluid. A turkey baster with a piece of vacuum line makes a good filler tool. With that said, you must find the leak. You may have a leaking pump, hydraulic line or cylinder. RNever replace one line. Do them all. Always replace cylinders in pairs.

Good luck, Karl at aoksales.com
