Question about 2003 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

Would a mechanic be able to tell if my car has had water damage just by looking at it? The floorboards are rusting through and actually there is a small hole on passenger side, and I'm able to touch interior carpet! How should I proceed if car was sold to me with this damage? Should I get estimates for repair, before returning to dealer that sold car to me a few months ago? If dealer does not want to take any responsibility for selling car in this condition and will not talk to me about it, is there a different route I can effectively take?

Thanks for giving me some hope/help in this matter. It is very distressing to find out my car has this problem, especially since I've only had the car for a short time. You're advise will certainly help when I return to dealer to discuss. Hopefully these problems will be easy to resolve, if not I will certainly take your advise to seek out legal assistance, if needed.

This is against the law if they did not disclose the information prior to the sale. I would talk to a lawyer before proceeding to anything. They will be able to advise you on the laws in your part of the country and how to proceed with a buy back, lawsuit or a swap. If the car has floorbaord damage on both sides, this is likely due to water damage. If it is only on the passenger side, this could be due to a leaking heater core or plugged drainage hose with the A/C and had been repiared. The detail guys would have noticed this damage and told their boses!!

The bad thing is, to replace the floor boards is a major undertaking to a body shop, IF they decide to tackle it. Once there is that much damage, it likely rots other areas going up and makes the structural intergrity very very weak. The car does not have long to live once this happens!!

What causes wet passenger side floor in 2000 chrysler 300m?

Water.
You may have a rusted floor kicking up water, or a door seal may be leaking. check for both. In my 96 convertible it comes from the rocker panel filling up with water after a rain and it spills into the rear floorboards. It could be similar, although I don't see how a rocker can fill up like that in a hardtop. Check it out anyway, and run a coat hanger through the weep holes between the rocker and the floorboard where they are welded together They form a ridge on an angle like this: \\ on the lip and forms a small tube. This tube gets clogged with stuff and has to be routed out with that coat hanger from time to time. Eventually it will rust out and the problem will go away!!

I purchased a 2004 Nissan Altima in May of this year. Just found out that floorboards are rusting through to interior, upon brake replacement. Dealer in KY sold car "as is" Is there any help out...

There is a chance this vehicle has either had water damage or it is a manufacturing defect. I think rust-through the sheet metal of floorboards is actually considered a safety hazard that probably isn't legally allowed to be on the road. That being said if such water damage was not disclosed on the carfax report then the dealer should be obligated to repair it.

Water is saturating my passenger side floorboard in my 2002 Tahoe. I've had a mechanic look at it and he check the normal compressor drain valve and blew it out, although my floorboard continues to get...

It may be a heater core. i say "may" only because im not sure if yours is located there. but this is something i have run into. look under the hood passenger side fire wall. look for two water lines going into the firewall. this will tell you where your heater core is located. should be passenger side, under the dash.
hope this helps.

2004 Dodge Dakota water on the driver floorboard about 2 inches every time it rains the truck is just sitting in the yard at the time can you tell us how the water is getting in Thanks Neil

Check the seal around the windshield itself but then check inside the vents below the wipers. I've sealed up rust holes there on older cars. It could also be a loose rubber grommet going through the firewall.

2000 Jeep Gr. Cherkee. AC evaporator is leaking water in to floorboard. Have tried unclogging drain tube.

Well, this issue is physics, look for a missing or dislodeged drain hose, anything else usually requires the heater/ac box to be opened up. This is a fragile surgery, and you have to love it or take to a shop, VERY easy to break something. These are not common replacement parts....

The next step would be to open the box and inspect for blockages or damage.

The clear water is a normal part of the ac process. The removal of moisture is actually what gives the most comfort.

Floorboards are wet,front and back

The tubing under the dash that comes from the air condition may be stopped up...there may be leafs or trash stopping up hole along the wind shield (Miada convertable problem) if this is the problem flush out the tubes...or your wind shield may be leaking ('87 chevy problem) if it is the windshield try cleaning around and resealing...Mine stopped when I had to have new windshields put in...
