Question about 1988 Chrysler Fifth Avenue

1 Answer

I have recently put a 88 fifth ave on the road. did need some repairs for safety. It seems that since I got it back from mechanic the radio does not work. someone has mentioned to me a code to reprogram radio as a safety device on these cars. Any clues on if this is so and where I would get code. Also I noticed on my drive to work today some smoke and a plastic type smell from my rear tires. they did put new tires and brakes on is this just normal break in stuff? Bev

tks for the prompt reply radio is factory. And I guess with the smoke and smell its a trip back to the garage. yeah you can tell its my first car and I am a newish driver so kinda not really experienced with anything.

First the radio problem. Is the radio factory or aftermarket? You really should not smell a great deal of anything unless there was a leak of some sort of fluid back there that did not get cleaned very well.

On my 88 Chrysler fifth ave when you go to start it, it don't do anything no dash lights nothing? The battery's charged and interior lights come on

Suspect a problem in the ignition switch circuit. Usually caused by a missing power source. Check fusible links at starter motor for any broken/melted links. Also, make sure battery cable connections are tight and clean

Trunk release, power windows, turn signals, wipers, radio all stopped working at the same time on 86 chrysler fifth ave

Hi! This doesn't sound like a shorted wire, because a short would usually blow a fuse. Since you're having trouble with the starter, I'm thinking that the ignition switch needs replacement. Depending on the year/make/model, you may be able to change just the electrical part of the ignition switch.

SSounds to me that the timing is off. The timing recomended by Chrysler is 7 deg. Aadvanced. The EEC will do the rest.

Ballast resistor location

should be on the firewall...can't remember which side but I think its on driver side It's ceramic rectangle with four wires. (I had one and just can't picture where exactly it was.) One tip though, when you put it back on, use some high temp silicone around top and side edges, leave bottom open. They usually fail from water dripping down and cracking resistor (gets hot).
