Question about 1997 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

1997 Nissan Maxima. Battery is good, but car seems "dead" and won't start. Does not turn over at all. Interior lights are off or very weak. Problem is completely intermittent. Occaisionally starts right up. Problem is happening more often than not lately.

It sounds to me like your starter may have a flat spot(dead spot) and it is gradually burning out.The diming of the lights indicates the kind of "short to ground" associated with this problem. If you are handy I would remove the starter and take it in to an auto supply store and see if they can test it for you.If not I'm afraid you will have to take it into the local garage.Good luck to you.

My 2000 Nissan Maxima will not start-no clicking, just dead. The battery was tested and is good.

You probably need a new starter. Try locating the starter and hit on it 2 or 3 times, then try starting the vehicle again......If it starts then you need a new starter.

there is a problem with your iginition timing. it is most probably overly advanced. have an experienced mechanic check your ignition timing. the mechanic should check the distributor, camshaft, and crankshaft timings.

Hi my nissan maxima 1997 is having some problems like idle is very low when the engine is warm! then while driving it was ok but when you stop at the intersection or traffic lights the "IDLE drops...

Sounds like your idle air control valve, after time they get dirty and cause low and/or rough idle. They also cause vehicle to just die when idling or taking off from a stop sign. Unforntunately they cannot just be cleaned, as this ruins the finish inside of the unit. Check your local parts store, they can be pretty expensive units to purchase; however, they are usually fairly simple to install, good luck! :)

Sounds like you had a weak battery, and now it's a dead battery. Go get you're charging system checked. Auto Zone does if for free. Could be an alternator too but it most likely your battery. And they'll put in your new battery for ya too. FREE!

Good luck
