How much does it cost to replace a fuel pump for a 2005 chevy cavalier? Also, what recomendations do you have in terms of replacing certain items on the motor (example: oil pump, water pump, etc.)?

Your question is about the fuel pump well don't buy it from a dealer it will cost twice as much and an lower grade produts .Get a pump from a company called DELPHI .The tank has to come down on this vehicle but its a 2005 so that shouldn't be that big of an issue however when the tank is down you need to address any and all other problems with the system like rust on fuel lines and on the filler system as well as the tank it self . As far as the oil pump goes that is inside the engine . You would need to lift the engine to remove the oil pan to get at that so don't worry to much about that . As far as the water pump that is simple not a big hard job its actuly vary easy to do witch many things are not on your vehicle it costs 30 to 35 dollars depending ware you get it but let me tell you this ALWAYS KEEP THE ANTIFREEZE CLEAN AND SERVICED ON THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU DIDN'T

Is the engine actually over heating or just the gauge giving incorrect readings?? The stepper motor in the console's temp gauge could be defective. Have someone with a laser heat gun check the temp of the engine around the thermostat to find the correct temp.

Is there a door under the back seat of the 1999 traiblazer to get to the fuel sensor?

Sorry, but you have to remove the gas tank to replace the sensor (sending unit) and fuel pump.
It is a fairly complicated and potentially dangerous job for the home mechanic to do.
It involves de-pressurizing the fuel system, removing the gas, raising the vehicle, disconnecting the hoses and electrical lines, removing the tank, and removing the sending unit/pump.

How much should it cost to replace the water pump?

if i remember right it is about 2 hours labor time, $150-$300 depending on the shop labor rate and the pump should be about $100-$200 dollars depending on the supplier and shop mark-up. so $250-$500 dollars roughly.

    Water pump

On the 3.4.... Drain coolant, remove drive belt guard, loosen pulley bolts, remove drive belt, remove pulley, remove water pump. Good idea to check the belt for cracks or wear when doing the pump replacement. Reverse the procedure to install.
