Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter 318, it has 148k miles and has run like a dream for the five years i have owned it and out of no where my reverse gear has no power, drive, park, 2nd, and 1st work fine but when i put it in reverse i can hear it shift to reverse but wont move, no grinding or slipping, i lifted the rear and did same thing and it will definetly shift to reverse and it spins the wheels but when its down on ground the weight of the truck keeps it from actually moving, its almost as if reverse doesnt enough power to move the truck, im ready to rip the pan and valve body off to see if i can get any visuals,, any advice, reasoning or guidance?

You could remove the valve body and clean
You will not see anything at all by looking
You will need a diagram of where the check balls go,because your upside down, with the case facing down.
You will need to put vasoline on the check balls to hold in place.
If the valve body cleaning isn't the issues, pull the unit out and rebuild

How to remove a stripped out spark plug from a 1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter

Pain in the rear end. but it can be done. Remove the head. and pound it out. Use a helicoil the re thread the hole. If you have to do this, redo the heads, if it has above 170,000 miles , replace the engine. Not worth the head job. But if it were mine. I'd replace it if it had anything above 130,000 miles.

How do I adjust the timing on a 2001 Dodge Ram

There is no adjustment for the timing on a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.2 liter . and the most likely cause on th eother problem is the abs speed sensor on the rear differential it is bolted to the top of the differential housing with a 10mm bolt remove it slowly in a twisting motion and put new differential grease on the o-ring slide it in and bolt it down and remeber to clear all codes or the sensor will run off of old paremeters

How many miles on that rig? The 4.7 motor is a great motor.

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Might also be a trans issue. Does the trans seem to be shifting properly?? Could it be starting in 2nd gear which is the "limp mode" for Chrysler trannies?

Whining coming from washer fluid reservoir area, engine is off?

A whining noise in that area is most likely the power steering pump. Does it do it with the engine running or when the engine is off?
