Question about 2004 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Brake lights and turn signals don't work. Any ideas of why they don't work? Jiffy Lube just put in new lamps and Pep Boys tightened my battery connections.

Possibly a broken connection inside the socket for the lamp. Or, one or more wires are not making connection in the connector that goes between the wiring harness and the lamps.

My 1997 GMC Jimmy will not start, when I turn the key nothing happins. I put new battery in it and my power locks worked and windows, lights, then I turn the key and nothing everything dies???????

Did this happen after you put the new battery in?
I have run into where people just put a new Pep Boys or Kragen or whomever battery in and had issues afterwards. Soemtimes the terminals don't tighten. The bolt will be as tight as you can get it without stripping and the terminal can still be moved. The battery terminal hole may be too shallow not alloing the bolt to go deep enough.
Things will work until you try to start, The starter will draw a lot of juice and cause the loose terminal to arc and lose connection.

Now if this was happening before you replaced the battery then it may be the starter orits circuit. Hook a test light to the starters small "S" terminal and try to start. If the ight comes on its a bad starter. If no light then you need to trace that back. Manual transmission should have a safety switch on the clutch pedal. Automatic will have a neutral safety switch on the transmission (right side where the gear selector hooks to).

But that sudden loss of power makes me thing there is a loose connection arcing. If not at the battery then check the under hood fuse and relay panel.

Yellow warning light that says check is on What does it want? In manual it says take to dealer

Take it to a Pep boys if you don"t have a code reader.
They will check out the computer code warning you are getting right noe.
The cost will be about $40 or 50 bucks.
The dealer will charge you three times that much, plus Pep boys will give you a up front free estimate if you need any repairs.
Bet it's the gas cap though.
Try tightening your gas cap and driving the car around far a hundred miles or so.
remember never put gas or loosen the gas cap when the engine is on.
The computer will pick up the venting like it would a leak, thus sending a warning code to the computer.

Turn signals don't work but hazard and brake lights do.

Check your fuses. There is probably a separate fuse for turn signals.

Engine light came on recently and Jiffy Lube guys did diagnostics and found nothing and turned it off and now it just came back on, malfunction or get checked?

If the check engine light came back on after the computer was reset you need to take it and have the code read to see what the problem is. Most auto parts stores will check it for you free such as Autozone, O'riely, Pep Boys.

How do I change the motor oil

If you have to ask this question you probably don't have the proper tools to do the job and would be better going to a Jiffy lube, Firestone, Pep Boys or some national chain. Check the newspaper to find one that has a special.
