Engine overheats new water pump,belt,thermostat water doesnt seem to flow well through engine does this model have thermostat issues?

I have 2005 montero 3.8 and is overheatting we change the water pump, clean the radiator, replaces all houses and the problem continue. so if some body tell me what else we have to do.?

I've replaced the water pump,thermostat, and hydraulic fan that was barely moving on Lincoln ls 3.0 v6 but still continues to overheat.Removed tstat just to get home.Why would it still be overheating?


There are usually only three major reasons why cars overheat. The first is a water flow issue. You have make attempts in that area with the water pump and the thermostat. The second is an air flow issue. You addressed that with the fan. The third is an engine malfunction issue, such as a blown head gasket or worse.

There are still a few things you can check..first, the radiator itself could be clogged up, restricting water flow. Second, verify that there is nothing restricting airflow through the radiator such as dirt, bugs, debris, etc. Also, ensure that any fan shroud that should be in place is there and properly installed. These can cause lack of air flow through the radiator. Last, have the engine checked for a blown head gasket.

Are the cooling fans coming on ? Go under the hood in the engine compartment , with the vehicle running have some one turn on the A/C , do you see and or hear the cooling fans come on ? Could be the coolant temperature gauge is bad ! How many miles on the vehicle ? Ever have water pump replaced ?

Car overheats, belt doesn't turn when engine running but moves by hand, the fluid level is still full, thermostat?


Could be a bad water pump, sounds like the pump has shot being. That's why it turns hard. if the pump doesn't turn then no coolant will flow through the engine. That will cause the engine to overheat.

1999 ford taurus overheats boils out of res.new thermostat...saw water pumping 2 water pump....saw water pumping out of thermostat....not sure though seems like not enough water pumping through...


It sounds like you have an air pocket in your system. By the RH strut tower take the heater hose loose from the metal line and fill the cooling system when coolant starts coming out reconnect the hose. If that doesn't work jack the car up where the over flow tank is the highest point and fill the cooling system.

When the engine has cooled down check the coolant level and make sure it is full. If the coolant is in the operating range, I would suspect one of two problems, water pump or thermostat. With the engine on check to make sure the serpentine belt (should be only one belt for your engine) is turning the pulley for your water pump is rotating without restriction.
The thermostat will allow coolant flow when it reaches operating temperate. You may be able to squeeze the hose and feel the pressure of the water flow when the engine is heating up. Be careful of loose fitting clothes and your body stays away from moving parts of the engine. If you have no flow check the thermostat first and if the flow of coolant is not circulating when the engine warms up you will have to drain the coolant to remove the pump to check the operation and replace if necessary.
The thermostat is inexpensive but you may have to drain and refill the radiator. If the water will not flow though the radiator it will not cool the engine. Follow the large radiator hose to the engine block. The hose connects to a cast iron elbow with two bolts holding it to the block. Drain the radiator fluid, unbolt the two bolts and you should see the thermostat. Clean off the old gasket off the block and elbow then bolt the elbow and new thermostat with gasket to the block to the manufactures torque specs. I would buy some radiator flush if it has not been flushes for several years. Fill the radiator with the correct ratio of coolant and water replace the cap then run the engine for 15 minutes and look for leaks or listen for hissing from the leaks.

Engine over heating can be caused by a number of things. When you say the water pump and radiator appear to be ok I am also guessing that you checked the coolant level to make sure it is normal.

If the level is low then you obviously have a leak. Insufficient coolant circulating will not cool the motor properly because it won't be able to draw enough heat out. If the level is normal then you need to check the thermostat to make sure it is opening properly. To do this, run the motor to temperature and check the top and bottom hoses. They should both be hot and firrm once the thermostat opens meaning the circulation loop is operating properly. If the top is hot and firm and the bottom is cold/soft or collapsed then the thermostat isn't opening.

If the thermostat is operating properly then you ned to look for some other obstruction or cause for coolant loss. Check the head/intake gaskets, hose connections, hoses, over flow tank, radiator fins, radiator side tanks etc..

I have a mazda bongo brawny 1996 it overheats on longer journeys,the water pump is fine and the thermostat has been removed, radiator flow is fine , no sign of water in oil,


You can not leave the thermostat out. It can in some cars run cold or others the antifreeze will become heat saturated. Both are real bad. Replace the thermostat. You need to check Everything, one by one. The radiator (for clogs), hoses (for damage, pinched), Defective clutch on fan, and water-pump (its new but is the belt slipping), If everything checks out then you may have a clog inside the engine or heads, itself.

Car overheating


Check whether water is coming out of the air bleeder pipe behind the carburator. If not, the heater unit water flow is blocked. You can notice this when turning off the engine. You can hear the water grumbling. at the back of the engine. Normally when it overheats the water flows back to the expansion tank and water will overflow through the cap. Make sure you are bleeding the air well after working on the water system of this car.
