Question about 2005 Ford F-150

1 Answer

I had my 2005 ford f150 service.. new pads in all four and a new rear calliper. Now the 4x4 wont engage. I check all the fuses, relays and they are good. I got under the truck and tap the selenoid but nothing. would it be a lose cable? if that ,where do I need to look to find it?

What solenoid under the truck did you tap ?
There is a transfer case under the truck, and the IWE solenoid is in the engine compartment on the firewall.

Did the Vent an vacuum lines get reversed ?

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ?

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

The four wheel drive will not engage on my 2005 f150 even after having a new actuator put on what else could it be?

there is a body control module the hooked to the fuse box under the dash. that box runs the 4 wheel drive. you need the numbers off ,and it is cheap to get the bcm on e bay that is where I get mine from

I have a 1998 f 150 4x4 and four wheel drive wont engage no lights either

Have an assistant, lie SAFELY under the truck with a small hammer and GENTLY tap the motor on the 4X4 unit while you engage and disengage the 4X4 switch. Key on engine off in Park with foot brake set and brake pedal depressed.

Check BJB ( aka Battery Junction Box, Engine Compartment fuse panel ) Fuse #17. This is the power to the Transfer Case shift relay, which powers the Shift motor in the Transfer case and power to the magnetic clutch coil ( via the transfer case relay ).

The other fuse to check is the CJB ( aka Central Junction Box, cab fuse panel ) Fuse #23.

If both fuses check good, time to check for power on the connector for the shift relay and the shift motor. The power from BJB Fuse # 17 is the Dark Green w/ Light Green stripe ( this is hot at all times ).
The old school test is to lightly hit the back of the transfer case, to see if the shift motor is hung up.
Here are the diagrams, so you can see what I am talking about.

05 f150, 4x4 wont engage, there are no dash lights, no sounds? Fuses?

There is another recall for the cruise control. Once Ford added the inline fuse, electrical problems with transmissions, brake lights, and dash indicators started.

The dealer can run your Vin# and the recall is free.

4x4 F-150 2004 4X4 WILL NOT ENGAGE

You can check to see if there is a relay or maxi fuse in the engine compartment. The circuits/solenoids are known to go out alot in these in the fords.
