Question about 1999 Mercury Cougar

2 Answers

I have a 1999 mercury cougar and there is a warning light that stays on and I don't know what it means. I don't have the owners manuel to check. It is a orange light on the bottom left of the odometer kind of looks like a trash can with what looks like a 4 blade fan blade in the center of it. The car seems to be running fine. I hope that you can help me out with what it means. Thank you...

This is a symbol of an engine and is called the check engine light, this light is on to tell you theres a problem, you will need to have the computer scanned to get the codes, the codes will help it pinpointing the problem, there are many auto part stores that will scan it at no charge, for example they scan it and they get a code like po301 cyl 1 misfire, this would mean that cylinder one is misfiring, from there you would check the plug or the wire or coil, but this is an example, it could be as simple as a bad gas cap, start with scanning for the codes, your car computer is always testing all the systems of the car, when it sees a problem it turns on the light and stores a code, the code tells you where the problem is, hope this helps.

The fuse for the stop lamps is located in the passenger compatment fuse panel (see picture of location below) The fuse you are looking for will be in the number 24 position (see picture of layout below). this should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you don't have an owners manual and would liike a copy, you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy at no charge to you. i hope this helps and good lick.

To reset the light, turn the key to position two and have the drivers door open for about 40 seconds, the light should automatically go off.. good luck.

Alight i have a 1999 mercury cougar and a light popped on the other day and i have no clue what it means. the light is on the headliner bundle of lights. please help. thrashbash_sk8r@yahoo.com

If the light on your cougar has a wrench on it then this is your "Interval Maintenance light", it comes on when your car is due for a scheduled maintenance as prescribed in your owners manual (oil changes, transmission fluid, etc). Another light located on the upper cluster is the "Outside Temp Freeze Warning Light", this light looks like a yellow or red snow flake, if this light is yellow it means it's nearly freezing outside (so watch for slippery roads), and if this light turns red it means that it's 32 degrees or lower

Why is the ''snowflake light'' showing up red in my car?

I have a '99 Mercury Cougar & I've been read somewhere that the snowflakes have to do with the outside temp. & traction. I think it's warning you that it may be slippery or icy. I've noticed that when it's +3 to about -2 or -3, the yellow snowflake shows up. Any anything colder than -3 shows the red snowflake. The other lights: the wrench comes up in yellow. That one has always turned on after a certain amount of km's & it's advising you that your car needs a check-up (that's when I know I should look into getting an oil change). You can turn this light off by holding down the two buttons above & below the 'clock' button. Hold them down together for at least 5 seconds & that wrench light should go off. Otherwise, there is a light for checking your breaks (upside down exclamation mark), low windshield fluid. I can't think of any other ones but I hope this helps.
