How does the fuel gauge work on a Smart Car? It's measured in 8ths and doesn't reduce slowly but by chunks of 8hrs. The fuel economy is really heavy. Could the fuel gauge be faulty?

Just fill the car's tank up and run it for 100 miles and then refill the tank to full again. Check the miles run and fuel amount added and then check the gauge position before and after the fill and calculate the Miles per gallon. This manual check will show if the fuel gauge is not reading accurately and if you are burning excessive fuel. If you are burning excessive fuel have the engine scanned as the computer may be generating some fault codes which will help point to the possible causes of the excessive fuel usage.

Why do i have lack of heat and low heat gauge reading on a dodge caliber 2007 2.0 and 115,000 miles s

I would bet the check engine light is on as well?

Low temp gauge and the lack of heat is typically the result of a bad thermostat. I would also bet that you fuel economy has nose dived as well. A new thermostat should get the engine running at the correct temp and restore the heat to the passenger compartment.

What happens when thermostats dont work in chevy tahoe 2000

The temp gauge will read lower than normal especially at highway speed. The check engine light may come on with a P0134 code (I think). And there will be a noticeable loss of heater from the heater, if you live in colder climates.

If you track fuel economy you will also notice a noticeable reduction in fuel economy depending on how cool the engine gets.

Temperature gauge stays cooler then normal between a quarter and a half on the gauge

The thermostat has a weak spring. You need to replace the thermostat with a new one.

I just bought a 05 mitsubishi outlander which is suppose to go 28 mpg but i only get 14 mpg. Can this be fixed? and if so what do i need to do? thanks

Are you going by the gauge that says fuel economy on the dash, if so try to zero out the gauge or reset it ,this will recalculate the reading.

Do all 1991 240 automatic Volvos have Overdrive and what is overdrive used for?

All the ones I have come across have it. Basically it allows gearbox and engine to sync for greater fuel economy when you are not 'town driving' I.e doing more than 25 MPH. I've always left my overdrive engaged as you usually get better fuel economy. To try, take it onto a long open road, engage overdrive and bring her up to speed. Then turn off overdrive and watch your fuel gauge. You can pretty much see it drop.

91 deville fuel gauge flashes "E"

It seems that you are low on fuel based on you saying 70 miles in the range gauge. If this problem does not happen with 3 gallons of fuel or more then it is normal. The range is calculated on your average MPG and gallons of fuel in the tank. When the car gets to around 2 gallons it does not chance miscalculating your miles to empty and leave you on the side of the road. At this point he tank will read "E" to let you know it is time to fuel up. The flashing "E" is simply cadillac's way to get your attention that you are in fact low on fuel and need to take action. Hope this helps.

Fuel consumption

Thats called physics. the gauge (economy) is designed to give you a visual reference as you accelerate so you can monitor the fuel consumption rate.

Gas gauge dosn't work correct

But it works ok otherwise? Be happy, it's working then. No offense, but alot of vechiles when you fill it up full, and I mean FULL will read over full, and will stay there untill tank isn't overfilled. Since your drivnig a good fuel economy car, it will take several days.
