It is very important to enter the code correctly because if too many incorrect codes are entered the radio will permanently shut down. After each successive failed attempt it will take progressively longer before a new attempt can be made.
The procedure for entering the code is related to the radio rather than the car and the type of radio is likely to differ depending on trim level and territory.
The first code number will be entered using the first button, pressing it repeatedly until the display is 6 - - -
The second digit is produced by the second button and so on.
Once the correct code is displayed it usually must be committed to the radio memory by pressing another button but different radios have different button requirements. I strongly suggest you look in the vehicle handbook, carry out further internet research or visit the dealer to ensure you know the exact method of code entry.

The code should be on top of your radio, the only thing you got to do is remove the plastic that goes around the AC controls and stereo. You can either unscrew the radio it self or the AC controls. I have done this a few times just because I misplace the code and of course I have to remove the battery cable to perform certain jobs.

To get the radio to work you don't enter the "key code" for your keys. You enter the security code for the radio. Two different numbers. if you make 10 attempts and fail, I believe you have to leave the radio on for either a half hour or an hour before retrying with the correct code. If you can't locate the security code for the radio try this:
The code normally comes on a separate document as does key codes or numbers. You could check the owner's manual to see if it was noted in there. (A bad idea.) Also check for a sticker inside your glove box. If that doesn't work then you need to remove the radio/CD player from the dash to get it's serial number from the back of it. Take that number with your VIN to a Honda dealer and they should be able to get your security code for you. They will likely ask for your driver's license & registration to prove you own the vehicle.

I have a crv also. the audio system has an anti-theft mechanism, to deter thieves from stealing your cd player/radio. you need a code to turn your unit back on, usually a four or five digit code, that should have been provided when you bought the vehicle. If you don't have it, the unit will come back on after, and only after a full, uninterupted hour of driving.

Try this:
Use the Preset buttons to enter the five-digit code. If it is entered correctly, the radio will start playing.
If you make a mistake entering the code, do not start over or try to
correct your mistake. Complete the five-digit sequence, then enter the
correct code. You have ten tries to enter the correct code. If you are
unsuccessful in ten attempts, you must then leave the system on for
one hour before trying again.
Hope it gets you there.
