Question about 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

1984 Mercury Grand Marquis, ignition switch seems bad, loose. Have to jiggle it to make air controls and turn signals work. Today it made a noise like I was trying to start it when already running, which I wasn't, when I turned the key, twice. What parts do I need? Thanks

Replace switch, but call dealer service dept with VIN number and see if involved in recall for free repair.

The air flow system is making a load humming (mooing) sound. I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and would like to know what is done to stop the noise and how much does it cost to repair.

The air intake ducting (all the black hose plumbing coming from air cleaner box) may have a loose connection somewhere. Check all clamps and sensors attached.

It sounds like a vacumn problem. When the heater controls loose vacumn it defaults to the defrost position. When your car decels your engine vacumn is at its highest. Check your vacumn lines for damage. Check the control panel for a vacumn leak. If you take out the controls and hear a suction noise than the control switch is leaking.

I would replace the clock spring rotating contact drum under the steering wheel for the restraint system warning light issues and check the operation of the headlight sensor when the lights will not go off, this is likely a sticking relay.

I have a 1977 Mercury Grand Marquis the turn signals, brake lights, and turning lights do not work. The running lights and hazard lights do work. I checked the bulbs and the relay can for the turn signals...

Turn signal switch (also brake light canceling switch) most likely bad or bad wire to it or from it. Check, with key on run, for power into switch. Turn switch on, check for power out. No power out switch bad. Power out, trace to rear tailight harness for broken wire.

.the hazard is wired to constant power so it works with the ignition off.
the turn signal works off of a switched power,to the turn switch and either the right or left turn signal.
if a bulb burns out,the light stays on steady

Turn signals don't flash when braking 99 grand marquis

Check all earth wires on all lights.
most lights in cars run in series so if u loose one you loose the other mainly caused by bad earth on globe holders or corrosion where bulb sits.
little sand paper goes a long way.

1984 Mercury Grand Marquis starter continues to turn

sounds like a faulty ignition switch. Its not releasing properly from the start mode. the amp draw could be caused by a bad starter main lead, look for bubbles in the insulation along the entire wire. this is an indication of corrosion inside the insulation which will greatly increase amp draw.Hope this helps.
