Autozone diag: Check eng light o2 sensor - is this a do it yourself job?

Check engine light came on, Autozone diag indicates oxygen sensor, is this a do it yourself job (don't normally repair anthing on a car), but notice a $400+ repair job, would do it if not very complicated or difficult.

I was told by my mechanic that even after the 02's have been replaced the check engine light will come on and car won't pass inspection. What needs to be done is mileage...the car needs to be driven sometimes up to 120 miles before the light will turn off. Driving it worked.

Its not hard to change the o2 sensors but if they are baked in which means really hard to break loose u could have problems try spraying them down with p.b blaster and getting them out

Could u tell me tha problem wit my 03 impala tha message saying trunk open and check engine oil..and now my check engine light on thy done test on it an it said sumin bout n oxygen sensor.

What about O2 sensor ? is there a code ? There are several DTC'S for O2 sensors . Did you check the oil an is it full ? The IPC illuminates the LOW ENG OIL LEVEL indicator in the message center when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects low engine oil level, and the signal circuit is high. The IPC receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM.
Is the trunk open ? if not you need to have it checked out ,could need a Rear Compartment Lid Ajar Indicator Switch Replacement .
Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a ASE certified repair facility .

Check engine light is on autozone gave P2270 after checking it? What does this mean?

This P2270 trouble code refers to the post-catalytic converter O2 (oxygen) sensor on bank #1, sensor #2.

I have check engine light on and whe i checked the code is p4029

P0429 Description The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the switching frequency ratio of heated oxygen sensors 1 (front O2 sensor) and heated oxygen sensors 2 (rear O2 sensor).

A three way catalyst converter (Manifold) with high oxygen storage capacity will indicate a low switching frequency of heated oxygen sensor 2. As oxygen storage capacity decreases, the heated oxygen sensor 2 switching frequency will increase.

When the frequency ratio of heated oxygen sensors 1 and 2 approaches a specified limit value, the three way catalyst malfunction is diagnosed.
Possible causes - Catalyst Heater Control harness is open or shorted
- Catalyst Heater Control circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module

How many oxygen sensors are there on a 1996 ford explorer 8 cyl., 4.0 eng.

The answer depends on the type of exhaust system you have. You will have either 3 or 4 total O2 sensors on your V8. If you have single exhaust with a single catalytic converter then you will have 3 O2 sensors (2 upstream sensors & one downstream sensor - "up or down stream" meaning before of after the catalytic converter). If you have either dual exhaust and/or two catalytic converters then you have 4 O2 sensors (2 upstream & 2 downstream). If you have an MIL light (malfunction indicator light, or "check engine light") the code will indicate "front bank / bank one", which is one of the 2 upstream O2's before the catalytic converter(s), or "rear bank / bank two", which is one of the O2's after the catalytic converter(s).

I recently bought a 2000 Honda Odyssey and the engine check light is on. I took it to AutoZone and the codes came back as P0136 and P0138. It's indicating the downstream O2 sensor. Today I jacked up...

Your car uses heated oxygen sensors. Once the key is turned on the heating element in the sensor will start heating up. If you leave the key OFF overnight and the sensor is warmer than the surrounding metal, then that would indicate a problem. Running the engine even for a just a minute will heat the exhaust system and the sensor quickly.

Oxygen sensors can maintain their "new" look for a long time. I have romved sensors that are years old and look new on the oustide but have failed. Looking new or old is not a good indication of failure.

2004 GMC Envoy check engine light remains illuminated. Diagnostics revealed codes: P1133 and P0128. P1133 points to a heated oxygen sensor and P0128 indicates a possible defective thermostat. The O2 sensor...

Leave 02 sensor alone ,it is doing it's job . It is heated up because of lean fuel mixture due to incorrect engine temp.,replace thermostat before looking further.

My 2001 Ford Escape runs rough before it warms up. The check engine light has just come on. I assume it is an oxygen sensor. How do I replace it?

Well, fords are known for multiple O2 sensors... so I would have Autozone do a free diagnostic to see if

1. it really is an O2 sensor - and which one
2. eliminate the power feed to the injection/choke circuit.

97 Dodge stratus...told oxygen sensors were bad

why what is it doing and did you have check eng light on ? and did you plug in a OBD 2 scanner to retrieve those fault codes that would indicate that specific "code" was the trouble= O2 sensor/or sensors

Check engine light on.

Replace O2 sensor. They have to be really hot in order to read right. Did you ensure to drive around a good 30 min to make it hot?

Check engine on

o2 sensor is usually located on the manifold of most 4 cylinder engines they are normally a one wire connection. you will need the following:

New oxygen sensor....these can be really expensive.
a open end wrench that fits the O2 sensor, or an O2 sensor socket and a ratchet to loosen and tighten the O2 sensor

Start by driving the car to get the car warm o2 sensors can be very hard to get out if they are cold.

if you think you might burn yourself on something hot put thick gloves on, you will have to disconnect the on wire on the o2 sensor, unfortunately you cant wear gloves while doing this, so be extremely careful as the exhaust will be very hot.

After wire disconnected loosen o2 sensor by going counter clock wise using either a o2 sensor socket or a appropriate wrench

while wearing gloves, after the sensor is loose enough unscrew by hand, remember it is still very hot.

you can let engine cool down now if you want.

put new o2 sensor in tightening it firmly and replug the electrical connector back up.

if your check engine light does not go out take to autozone and have them reset your computer, or you can disconnect your battery cables for 20+ minutes and this resets the computer also.
