That hase something with the seat, airbag or seat occupied recognition, and you need to check the wires and connectors onder the seat, clean them and connect them surely. But still you need to connect to vag com to delete error crom car omp.

2006 vw jetta airbag light on. Code 02511 012 and 02511 008

02511 - Control Module for Seat Occupied Recognition (J706)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent - MIL ON

Best bet is a trip to the dealer.
I have seen hours of discussion on VW forums about this.

Some due to battery removal, others changed the stock seats.

The bottom line is the computer isn't reading the signal properly that someone is sitting in the seat.

Meaning you may not have working airbags.

Have a look through google and make the call, but I would just have the dealer look at it.

97 jetta airbag light on

the airbag light on is telling there is a problem. On some vehicles require a OBD2 code scanner for the diagnosis. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing.

I have a 2006 Jetta and the airbag light is coming on. I have been through a factory recall fix and a software upgrade and now the dealer wants to charge me 400 bucks to troubleshoot the wiring. Does...

if the airbag light is on then its not a fuse ,most likely cause is the wiring under the seat or the serpentine winding under the steering wheel airbag ,try disconnecting the battery then cleaning the connection under the seat and also the plug into the pyrotechnic device on the seat belt anchorage. If you still cannot get it right then use a diesel preheater timer relay and connect the airbag light through this so the light goes out after a few seconds then vehicle will pass its vehicle mechanical inspection test

I have a 2006 jetta 2.5 automatic. the airbag warning light comes on although there seems to be no problem. A lamp light stays on even though i have no headlight or turn/backup/break light/trunsignal...

My jetta 2.5 2006 had a defective wire harness in the driver's door with cracked insulation causing intermittent short-circuits bringing battery discharge and no start-up in the morning.
I suspect all the cars that had their wiring made with the same roll of wire will experiment similar problems.

Airbag light staying on

You need to connect to vag com or some else computer program to see the error code and when remove prroblem you need to delet the error from car computer memory to get rid of the light.
The most common problems are: blown fuse, bad connection under the seat or something like that! But you can't do nothing without the comp.
