Possibly the starter solenoid clicking. Check the connections on the starter. Should have a small lead on it for the solenoid operation, and a bigger cable from the battery. check that these are tight. Failing that, Try turning the key while rocking the car side to side or by getting a helper to lightly tap the starter with a jack handle. If it starts then, your starter is on the way out ! Good luck.

I have a 1998 Pontiac grand am replaced starter

if your getting a clicking noise at the starter double check for good connections at the starter and grounds as well as the ground wire from the battery to engine. if this is good check the battery condition and load tested. if the battery checks good then you may have just gotten a bad starter.

1986 ford f350 won't start

The solenoid click sounds very strong, implying that you have a charged battery and the ignition circuit is functioning out to the solenoid. Suspect an issue with the starter motor. Is the starter motor installed and connected properly?

Wont start, click,click,click

If it's not a low battery, then it could need a new starter,or starter solenoid. Also check the battery cable connections are tight. Tight at the battery and/or at the starter. ( When checking the connections at the starter, disconnect the cables at the battery first, so that you do not short any connections with your wrench. Then reconnect the battery.) HOPE THIS HELPS.

Starter clicking

you may want to check the battery voltage with meter it should be no less than 12.6 volts.then perform an amp load test on the battery to see if the battery is no good.if this checks out then my next question would be did you install a new or used starter.if used it may not be a good one.if the starter is clicking try tapping the starter with someone trying to start it if it starts the starter is no good,it has an internal also could be loosing voltage while trying to start the car which will have to be checked with a should have battery voltage on both terminals of the starter.if not you will have to check connections at both ends of the wiring for the starter.

My 2003 Galant will not start , clicking but does not start. Checked battery and its good. What would I check next? starter ? spark plugs?

I would still say is the battery. You can only check a battery with a hygrometer or a load resistance meter which simulates a load similar to a starter and then gives a volt reading. Operating lights and horns is not a reliable battery test. If the dash lights dim significantly when you try start and hear the clicking, that is a better check of the battery condition.

1995 mazda 626 4 cylinder starter clicks but wont turn over i replaced battery thinking it was that no luck i just replaced starter and solenoid same result justs clicks i cleaned all my connections so...

check for a fuseable link in the wire going from the battery to the starter , if its bad you'll get clicking , check the relay for the starter,, locate where the clicking is coming from, and check that relay

Tried to start truck. click click click click. charged battery overnight click click click click. tried to jump click click click click. bad battery?

Are the posts on the battery very corroded? Try disconnecting the cables and cleaning the posts, then re-connect and try to start. If the posts are clean; check all the electrical connections from the battery to the starter and make sure they are all clean and tight. If all that is good, either get a multimeter and check the DC voltage from the battery, if the voltage is less than about 13, the battery needs to be replaced. If you do not have a multimeter or do not know what a multimeter is, take the battery to any autoparts store and ask them to test it...they can tell you if it is dead, has a dead cell, or is fine. They can then help you troubleshoot further if necessary...but I don't think you will have to go much further than that.
