Can not remove rear rotor do i need to remove spindle nut?

There is no spindle nut on the rear drivetrain of a grand cherokee?

If the front or rear rotor is stuck on the hub than tap it with a hammer from the backside. It is likley rusted to the hub as this is pretty common on many makes and models.

How to replace front passenger wheel hub on 1991 lincoln continental


This is not a bolt on hub but rather a press on hub, the wheel bearing will need replacing also, remove wheel, remove the caliper and hang off to side, next remove the brake rotor, next is to remove the axle nut. a matter of fact you without power tools should do this first,before even removing the wheel use a big rachet and pipe for leverage, remove the axle nut first. with axle nut removed,brake caliper hanging off to side and rotor off. next you will discconnect tierod from spindle and remove nut from lower ball joint, sperate balljoint from spindle. next remove bolts from strut to spindle. note if you have abs make sure to dissconnect wire before trying to remove spindle, with strut bolts out remove spindle. at this point i wouls say a press is needed, take to your local shop and ask them to replace the hub. heres a picture of the hub asm. hope this helps you. good day.2_20_2012_12_26_43_am.jpg

Replacing front wheel bearings on 97 dodge 3500 2wd


If its to wheel drive than it will have a inner and outer bearing. 1. Remove the caliper 2. Remove the dust cap from the center of he rotor 3. Remove the cotter pin from the spindle 4. Remove the castellated nut 5. Remove the nut and washwer 6. Remove the outer bearing 7. Remove the rotor from the spindle 8. Remove the grease seal from the back of the rotor 9. Remove the inner bearing Clean the grease out of the rotor. Use a punch to remove the inner and outer races from the hub. Install the new races into the rotor with a seal/race driver. Pack the new bearings. Install inner bearing into rotor. Install new grease seal. Wipe old grease off of the spindle and apply a thin coat of new great. Install rotor ono spindle. Install outer bearing, washer, and nut. Tighten nut snug then back off nut a half of turn and then tighten agin just barely snug. Install castellated nut and cotter pin. Removing the front brake rotor spindle nut


I think when you remove the lug nuts, wheel and
caliper the rotor should pull right off. If its rusted
in place tap it lightly all around. The spindle nut
you speak of might be the hub nut which secures
the drive axle.

Remove the wheel then remove the brake caliper and rotor, remove nut from lower balljoint split balljoint and control apart,remove the cv nut from axle then pull spindle back and slide cv shaft out of spindle,next on the rear of the spindle remove the bolts that hold bearing to spindle then use a hammer to tap bearing out of spindle here a picture to help you locate the bolts on the spindle and to see what it looks like,984d3b5.jpg

Replacing front hub assembly


remove the wheel, then remove the caliper and tie of to the side, slide rotor off, remove the axle nut, remove the lower balljiont nut, use a balljoint sperater tool to break balljoint free from spindle, using a long pry bar pull down on lower control arm to remove from spindle, pull spindle out to pull axle out of spindle, next tie spindle out of the way of axle, use a pry bar in between rear axle joint and trany give a pull to break free from trany and pull out. reverse to install. hope this helps.

2WD pickups don't have hubs. They have rotors with bearings. Once you have the brake assembly supported, remove nut from spindle. Be sure not to strip the threads on the spindle. Remove the front set of bearings and pull the rotor off. Remove the rear set of bearings. Be sure to pack greases into new bearings prior to installation. Insert new rear bearing into rotor and replace onto spindle. Insert new front bearing and washer and re-install nut. Tighten to recommended torque specs, grease fittings and replace brake assembly.

I have a 95 Chevy suburban and I am trying to change the rotor and can not get it off. The lugs are attached to the rotor and not sure what I should do


Removing: Loosen lug nuts (7/8") and spindle nut (36mm). Lift truck. Remove lug nuts, spindle nut, and wheel. Remove 2 bolts (3/8" allen) holding calipers on. Hold the calipers up with a bungee cord. I attached it to the sheet metal of the fender. Remove 4 bolts (15mm) from rear of hubs. Once these bolts are removed you can move the shield that is in-between the hub and the axle(I think). You are moving it to get access to the allen bolt that holds the ABS sensor on. Once you move the shield then you can look through the top of the rotor through the slots and see the sensor line and bolt. I don't remember what size allen this one took. You do need a long allen wrench though. Disconnect sensing line from hub. Now the rotor is ready to come off. I had to use a pry bar to remove this gently working each side until it popped off. Once the rotor is removed, you need to hammer out the lug bolts. Then you have to tap the rotor away from the hub. This took a little work. Then check each of the lug bolts by screwing the lug nuts on them. They should go all the way down by hand. If they don't - go buy new bolts $2 a piece. Installing: Position new rotor on hub. Get some dry ice from your local grocery store and freeze the bolts for about 10 minutes. Pull one bolt out of the ice at a time and install on the rotor and tighten the bolt with the lug nut. I put the nuts on upside down and used a 7/8" wrench and mallet to tap on the wrench to get these as tight as possible. You also have to tap on the head of the bolt and repeat the wrench tapping. Do this for each bolt pulling one out of the ice at a time. You do not have to get the rotor and hub completely together but get it as close together as possible. Once all of the lug bolts are in it is time to put the rotor on the truck. Ensure the shield is on the spindle and install the rotor, again, this takes some work. Once the rotor is on, connect the ABS sensing line. Line up the shield and install 4 bolts to rear of hub. You can align these by moving the hub, not the rotor. Install the caliper, remember to put brake grease on these 2 bolts. You may have to compress the caliper slightly. To do this remove the brake pad that has the circular part of the caliper touching it. Open the brake fill cap on the master cylinder. Use a C-clamp to compress the circular part. Reinstall the brake pad and brake fill cap. Install the caliper. Install the wheel and tighten lug nuts. I used a cheater bar on my tire iron and ensured that the lug bolts were flush with the head of the lug nuts. Then I removed the wheel to verify that the gap between the rotor and the hub was gone. Reinstall wheel, tighten lug nuts, and tighten spindle nut. Once both brakes have been replaced, start up the truck and pump the brakes several times till you feel some tension when pressing them.

How to i remove rotors off of a 1991crown victoria


  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the caliper from the spindle and rotor, but do not disconnect the brake hose. Suspend the caliper inside the fender housing with a length of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
  4. Remove the grease cap from the hub and remove the cotter pin, nut retainer and adjusting nut.
  5. Grasp the hub/rotor assembly and pull it out far enough to loosen the washer and outer wheel bearing. Push the hub/rotor assembly back onto the spindle and remove the washer and outer wheel bearing.
  6. Remove the hub/rotor assembly from the spindle.
  7. Inspect the rotor for scoring and wear. Replace or machine as necessary. If machining, observe the minimum thickness specification.

  1. If the rotor is being replaced, remove the protective coating from the new rotor with brake cleaner. Pack a new set of bearings with high-temperature wheel bearing grease and install the inner roller bearing in the inner cup. Pack grease lightly between the lips of a new seal and install the seal, using a seal installer.
  2. If the original rotor is being installed, make sure the grease in the hub is clean and adequate, the inner bearing and grease seal are lubricated and in good condition, and the rotor braking surfaces are clean.
  3. Install the hub/rotor assembly on the spindle. Keep the assembly centered on the spindle to prevent damage to the grease seal or spindle threads.
  4. Install the outer wheel bearing, washer and adjusting nut. Adjust the wheel bearings according to the procedure in , then install the nut retainer, cotter pin and grease cap.

How to remove brake rotors


Go to a parts store and get a book on this car. $13 You will need a few tools but this is easy to do. You have to remove the caliper to get the rotor off. Good luck. Look on Youtube to see how this is done.

Front brake rotor on 1992 Ford Ranger 4wd with auto lock in


With Automatic Locking Hubs
  1. Raise the vehicle and install safety stands.
  2. Remove the wheel lugnuts and the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the retainer washers from the lugnut studs. Remove the automatic locking hub assembly from the spindle.
  4. Remove the snap ring from the end of the spindle shaft.
  5. Remove the axle shaft spacer
  6. Being careful not to damage the plastic moving cam or thrust spacers, pull cam assembly off the wheel bearing adjusting nut and remove the two plastic thrust spacers from the adjusting nut. CAUTION: Do not pry on the plastic cam or thrust spacers during removal. Prying may damage the cam or spacers.
  7. Using a magnet, remove the locking key. NOTE: If required, rotate the adjusting nut slightly to relieve pressure against the locking key, before the key can be removed. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the spindle threads, look into the spindle keyway under the adjusting nut and remove the separate locking key before removing the adjusting nut.
  8. Loosen the wheel bearing adjusting nut from the spindle using a 2-3/8 inch Hex Locknut Wrench T70T-4252-B or equivalent.
  9. While rotating the hub and rotor assembly, tighten the wheel bearing adjusting nut to 47 Nm (35 ft lb) to seat the bearings. Spin the rotor and back off the nut one-quarter turn (90 degrees).
  10. Retighten the adjusting nut to 1.8 Nm (16 in lb) using a torque wrench.
  11. Align the closest lug in the wheel bearing adjusting nut with the center of the spindle keyway slot. Advance the nut to the next lug if required. Install the separate locking key in the spindle keyway under the adjusting nut. WARNING: Extreme care must be taken when aligning the spindle nut adjustment lug with the center of the spindle keyway slot to prevent damage to the separate locking key. The wheel and tire assembly may come off while the vehicle is in motion if the key is damaged.
  12. Install the two thrust spacers and push or press the cam assembly onto the locknut by lining up the key in the fixed cam with the spindle keyway. CAUTION: Extreme care must be taken when aligning the fixed cam key with the spindle keyway to prevent damage to the fixed cam.
  13. Install the axle shaft spacer.
  14. Clip the snap ring onto the end of the spindle shaft.
  15. Install the automatic locking hub assembly over the spindle by lining up the three hub assembly legs with three pockets in cam assembly. Install the retainer washers.
  16. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Install and tighten lugnuts to 135 Nm (100 ft lb).
  17. Make sure the final end play of the wheel on the spindle is 0.00-0.08 mm (0.000-0.003 inch). the maximum torque to rotate the hub is 2.8 Nm (25 in lb).
