Question about Volvo 850

Re: one otherwise terrific 1997 Volvo 850 turbo GLT sedan. Starts fine and runs fine when cold, but once it reaches operating temp / warmed up it sputters and stutters terribly under acceleration and/or load (up steeper inclines w/higher revs). Only very occasionally does this occur when idling in gear at a stop. I have a nice OBDII reader but never got a code UNTIL the one time it nearly stalled- then codes were mulitple, (a.)- random misfire (duh!) p300, (b. & c.)-cylinders 2&4 misfire, p302 & p304 and (d.) secondary air system p410. While I suspect the last one is my culprit, numerous q&a's from other forums give a large variety of answers. Have replaced the cap & rotor with new, the plugs look clean/fine, wires might be next. Also replaced the cam position sensor with a low mileage used to clear a seperate fault code- that code has not returned. Is "secondary air system" the turbo, or vacuum, or what? I'm a do it relatively competent myself-er, without much financial reserves. Any and all suggestions as to where I start and proceed from there would be greatly appreciated.

Can you borrow an ignition coil and/or control unit for a day or two to check for the misfires?
The "Secondary Air System" should not be the problem since it merely is some air that gets blown into the exhaust line to increase start-up speed of catalytic cleaning. P0410 indicates a malfunction of this additional air system. This might be caused by the non-return valve in the air flow, the lambda sensor, or the air pump (which the turbo does not have, as far as I know). The valve is not too easy to get to but is quite often the source of the problem.

the p0171 code is for a fuel system lean code......possible causes are a cracked exhaust manifold.....bad o2 sensor...bad coolant temp sensor fuel pump.....lean fuel can cause the other codes you have for misfires

i would check fuel supply, volume adn pressure, i wold also look at the MAF sensor hot wire to see if it has a little chia pet growing on it.

The voltage should be between 13 and 14V when the engine is running. If not, 12V or less, you most likely have an charging problem. You need to remove the alternator and get it checked then get it rebuild.

Strut bushings replacement for a 1997 volvo 850 glt - schematics??

There is not much to it. There are three nuts at the top of the strut and two nuts and bolts at the bottom. Once these are out a McPherson strut compressor is needed and a special wrench or visegrip to take off the cross shaped nut. The bearings and bushings should all just slide off the shaft.

What does the code p1308 and p0455 mean on a 97 850 glt non-turbo model mean

P1308 : A/C Clutch Circuit Fault. You may wanna check the A/c clutch and see if it work properly.

P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak) . I think you need to check your fuel Canister and see if the hoses are not cracked or leaking.

I had this code one time P0455 and I check everything and everything was fine and I deleted the Code and never come back again. :-)

How do i reset the radio code in a volvo 850 glt sedan 1996

go to your local volvo dealership, and you must have the car in your name, but ask one of the mechanics if you can have the code for your radio, they'll look it up and give it to you I believe.
