Hi,

It could be several things. It has set codes in the PCM for a trans related concern. If the problem indicates a trans priority code it will flash the od light instead of the check engine light. I suppose Ford was helping to route work to the correct specialist tech in the shop. Most trans techs do nothing but trans work and most drive-ability techs do only performance and check engine light concerns. I am the only tech in dealership that does not reject work based on test outcome. If diagnostics reveals engine problem I tear down or replace, The other techs send it to a heavy line tech saying I don't do that type of work. One even will tell you he does not get his hands dirty.

You should be able to get the codes checked for free at autozone/ pepboys/etc. They perform this service and then try to sell you the part they think is bad. I have found that they misdiagnose the concern more often than not. If you will get the codes pulled and reply we can diagnose the concern properly.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Just bought a 2000 pontiac Gt with 110000 miles on it two days ago. Ive driven it 137 miles before the service engine soon light came on. What do you think it is

The service engine light is usually a flag for an oil change or other maintenance item. If it is reset, it will come back on in 5000 miles as a reminder to change the oil. Ask your dealer's service department how to reset the indicator and do it when you change your oil. I know for Saturn, the proceedure is Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine and within 5 seconds press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor 3 times. Not sure if it will be the same for the Pontiac, but you could give it a try.

The Drive light flashes and the car loses power and sometimes won't start

D light flashing means that there is something wrong with the automatic transmission, have the vehicle scanned to understand the origin of the failure. Car losing power is consistent with a transmission that fails to change to lower gears, but has nothing to do with failure to start, that i can think of. Remember that 1998/2002 Accord auto transmissions are notoriously weak, and rarely reach 80000 miles.

My S3 light on my dash keeps blinking when i drive whats that mean?

According to the owner's manual, it suggests having the tranny checked out. When mine started flashing @ 25,000 miles ago I had my transmission checked out. As my ECU does not show codes any longer, I was told that it was most likely a sensor had gone bad, and unless the car started driving poorly, not to worry about it. Apparently that transmission has 5 sensors on it.Like I said....25,000 miles ago. If your ECU still codes properly, an honest transmission guy should be able to isolate the source.

I have a 2004 BMW 545i. The Transmission Light came on 2 days ago but it has not been on since. I thought Transmission Fluid might be low. If it is I woulds like to knoow what type I should use. Once I...

I had the transmission fluid checked. It was ok- Apparently a malfunction in the electrical system. The battery has been recharged and I drove it yesterday. It seems to be ok. I plan to replace the battery soon, since it has not been replaced since I purchased the car in 2004. I drive it so infrquently I think the battery simply died. It has been driven approximately 25 miles since December 2008. I plan to drive it on the highway this summer.

1998 Volvo V70 with potential transmission problems?

Yes, it's the 'pnp' switch (also known as the inhibitor switch) which is on the side of the transmission.

I own 2 Volvo 960s (3 litre automatics) which are similar in many respects ... and have that flashing arrow. It's a well known fault and you don't have much to worry about.

Rather than write it all here, you can read what I wrote as an ebay guide about it at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-960-Automatic_W0QQugidZ10000000003233806

I did put similar info on my website at http://www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk/volvo960.html with photos

Though the ebay guide is better ...

If you haven't got time to read it ... forget the flashing arrow and put a bit of black tape over it ... My wife's car has (192,000 miles) had that arrow flashing for 3 years. My car (100,000 miles) has had that flashing arrow since I bought it 1 year ago.

I did change the pnp on both cars ... but you also need to have the computer error reset by Volvo to have the light extinguished. Don't worry ... keep driving.

Service Engine Soon Light

On all cars and trucks that are 1996 or newer they have a system called obd2 and the computer monitors anything thats plugged into it like sensors. The light is on because your computer has found a problem with 1 or more of them. If you want to know what area is having a problem you need to have the codes read by a obd2 scanner or code reader some auto part stores do this for free or oil
change store or mechanic shop
