Question about 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis
First, there are 8 bolts holding the metal Airhorn to the Intake manifold. Underneath this part is a gasket and under the gasket is a groove. The groove can Carbon up and affect the performance of your car. The gasket costs $10 and the job takes an hour or more.
If this does not help, you may need a knock sensor which is suppose to reduce the timing and keep the engine from knocking.
You can also get a free scan from Autozone or Oreillys and some other parts stores. This may tell you if other parts are needed. The gasket and groove I told you about will sometimes generate a Code 401. Just try cleaning the groove instead of buying an EGR or Solenoid.
