so the shifter linkage would have to be way off , it REV fails.
it either the shifter or a bad tranny.
we check the cable first. easy, and is 100x cheaper, if bad.

Pt cruiser shifter does not work it just moves back and forth and nothing will happen it is as if there is no gears there

where shifter linkage bolts to the tranny has come loose-have one person move shifter in car while you watch the end of the cable that connects to the tranny-there should be a nut that holds it on- the car is probably in park so move the shifter to park and tighten it down- cheers Denny

My 2002 GMC ENVOY SLT is stuck in reverse and I can't get it start or move out of reverse. Is this an electrical problem?

If its stuck in reverse then it wont start, this could be a bad tranny or the shift cable broke or came loose, theres a braket under the dash that holds the shift cable before it connects to the shifter linkage arm and that braket sometimes gets loosened up and the other problem is the shifter tube may have broken. a good way to see if its the tranny or the shifter asm is to get under the truck make sure to block wheels and put e-brake on. dissconnect linkage at the tranny and move the selecter arm on the tranny, if it in reverse then it should move o click in one direction which is park and the other way is into neutral then drive and so on, try to get it into park and seeif truck starts, if it does then its not the tranyy but rather it the shifter, another thing before doing that have someone turn key on but dont try to start it just move the shifter and se if it moves the arm on the trany, you will see this from under the side of truck on driverside. good day.

I had a dtc code for 1-2 shift solenoid. I replaced that and the 2-3 shift solenoid put everything back together and the truck wont move! I can move the shifter but nothing happens!

Is the fluid level correct? Did you put the filter in? I know they are dumb questions but it happens. Did you have to disconnect any linkage to remove the pan and did you get it put back together correctly? Was your tranny acting up before you replaced the solenoids? If so you may have more than just a solenoid issue inside your tranmission. Another dumb question but did you plug the solenoids back in? Sorry I don't mean to answer your question with questions but you have limitted information about your vehicle listed.

My 95 ford ranger wont go into park. its automatic on the colum. can i fix this on my own?

This is normaly a linkage issue. And it all connects in your tranny. You can look under your truck and theres a lever coming out of tranny on the driver side,This is your linkage,See if you can move it by hand. must bo on lacks in the rear and shifter needs to be in nutral. If able to move all way back and forwardIf works ok you just need to check your linkage up in your shifter, Best of luck to you.

I just bought a 96 k1500 silverado ext. cab 4x4 short bed has a 5.7. The guy had it parked on a 20 degree slope and had gotten the truck stuck in park. So I bought it, disconnected the linkage to the...

Your tranny rods are wrong. I normally leave things loose put the shifter in park, put the tranny in park and then adjust all parts and snug down. The next time you find that problem block the front wheels and jack the rear up to take the pressure off the right tire and it should come right out of park, this is the best reason to set the "E" brake.

Oil pan removal?

Im not sure if you are talking about the motor pan or the tranny pan. But I have lifted the motor and tranny together on a vehicle to change the motor pan and mounts before. I remember having to loosen the fan shroud. Undo linkage on the tranny and make sure the shifter boots were loose. The key for me was going real slow with the crane and having extra eyes around. It was a pain but it worked out.
