Give me the VIN number and I can look this up, also if it is a 6 cylinder it is a 300 C.I. or a 240 C.I., the V8 engines avail where 302, 360, and 390.

here are pictures of the different engines

    1. Is a 360V8 Stock will have a 2 barrel carburetor, valve covers have "V" shape

    2. 390V8

    Valve covers are rounded

the 2 straight 6 cylinder engine differ in that the 300 cubic inch (a huge engine for a 6 cylinder) is physically larger than the 240 C.I. it is also very tall and the 240C.I. shorter.

I would check the fourth digit of the VIN code, if it's a "G" it's a 302 cu. in., if it's a "Y" it's a 360 cu. in., if it's a "H" it's a 390 cu. in. motor. You can also check the block casting number which is on the passenger side of the block, above the starter. If you can locate the casting number, it may be decoded also. The gas leak maybe from the float in the carburator is stuck open, or the float is sunk.

Hi! I strongly suggest that you get a look on a salvage yard. You can atleast estimate the way it looks plus it will cost more that half. Not a bad deal though. Good luck on this and have a good one!

I had a c4 transmission rebuilt for my 1970 f100 and it still wont shift after the install

There is a vacuum hose that goes from the modulator on the transmission to the intake near the carb. Make sure it is not disconnected and that it is intact.

1970 Ford F100 Gas Gauge Not Working

It may be the sending unit in the tank that needs replacing. Here's how you can check: Turn the key on and disconnect the sender unit at the gas tank. Ground the sender unit's wire with a jumper wire from the truck's harness to ground. Watch the gauge. If the gauge on the dash is good, grounding the sender wire will cause the gauge needle to react and should move to full. This would indicate a new sending unit is required. If the gauge doesn't move when the sender unit is grounded, the gauge is bad and needs replacing. Pull the instrument cluster out to replace the gas gauge. Likely any old ford gas gauge might work-back then, there were not so many production changes.

1970 ford f100 390cu. The started motor gets locked up about one a week. I pull the starter motor and test it by hot wiring it directly to the battery and it works for about a week until it gets lockup...

You may need to shim the starter and I would have the starter tested. It is not uncommon to purchase a faulty elecrical part of any type from a part store.
