    Hi,

Fail safe mode comes on as a safety precaution that the car is taking
when it detects a fault in the system. This assure nothing further gets
damaged in the system. You will need to keep driving the car until the
car stores the faulty code, when it does store the code the check
engine soon light will also appear. Just because the car is in fail
safe mode does not mean it will come up on the diagnostic, it simply
means there is a fault in the system. The computer needs time to detect
    what is causing the fault.

As you have the fail safe mode light and check engine light, have you scanned the car for error codes? If you could tell me the code, i would be able to guide you.Unless, you need to get the car scanned and print out the codes.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

What causes my 1998 Jaguar XK8 not to start when initially cranked and the Fail Safe message is displayed?

Is the check engine light displayed? If it is, that's where you start, by retrieving the fault code(s). If not, then you could have a security system fault, fuel system breakdown, etc. All codes, regardless of the systems affected, will cause the vehicle computer to immediately default to a failsafe mode, till the problem has been fixed, and this drastically affects driveability, causing no-start issues, idle problems, etc.

Stopped at stop sign my f150 wouldn't move -engine fail safe mode -was showing what could be wrong ?

One or more sensors in the engine, water jacket or fuel system has failed or told the ECU to shut down. Get an ECU checker, plug it into the diagnostic socket and it will probably tell you which one. Basically, something has gone out of pre set limits and its shut down to save itself. Check the oil, water levels are OK. You don't want to look a dummy. When was it last fully serviced?

Mrsjd_0998@yahoo.comCheck on light comes on then the a small wrench icon appears. The message along with check engine now says engine in safe mode. The car loses all pick up. whats the problem

safe mode means the computer is protecting the engine by shutting down some operations - like half the cylinders.

go to autozone & have codes read (DTC) free.

Failed safe engine mode 1999 V8 S Type

I've got a 2000 that did the same thing. Get this, it was caused by a defective trunk seal that let water in my trunk and got my wiring wet. Could'nt even shut off the car, only way to kill it was to pull the positve battery cable, negative won't kill it. After all dried out, and jag dealer reset my failsafe mode all good....... until now i have a .500 ma draw on power while sitting unused, brand new batteries down in 1 week??

Enigine fail safe mode

I encountered the same problem, my engine fail safe mode light came on and shut the car down. I took my car to my mechanic and he found the solution to the problem. The car needed a throttle body cleaning and the fuel filter needed to be replaced. After having my truck serviced my mileage increased from 14.6 mpg to 15.4 mpg
ENGINE FAILED SAFE MODE WARNING LIGHT, GONE Total cost $86.45
