First, check coolant level and make sure you have enough coolant to water ratio. if you pop the cap off the radiator and see alot of rust, you might want to flush the system. another thing, with the motor cool and the cap off the rad. start the car. watch for signs that its being circulated{swirls around}. if it dont, the water pump could be bad, or the thermostat is stuck closed and in need of replacement

Overheating

Have you tried the 8 mm bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing? You may have air trapped behind your thermostat. Also, overheating can be caused by a collapsed lower radiator hose. If it's soft and you can squeeze it together, then under acceleration it closes down on itself thus preventing the flow of your coolant. Also check your radiator cap. It's supposed to be a 1.1 Bar cap but if it's not functioning correctly, by having to add coolant to the coolant reservoir bottle or the coolant overflow bottle overflowing, usually says it's the radiator cap. These are the simple fixes that you ,may have overlooked.

Good Luck,

The only way a heater core can cause overheating is if it's leaking and the engine is low on antifreeze. To check it for leaks it would help to use a cooling system pressure tester.
