I have just replaced the thermostat in my mitsubishi outlander 2006 zf 2.4l auto wagon and I am flushing the radiator but i need to know the coolant/radiator capacity and the ratio of coolant/water

Hello aislin87,

The total engine coolant capacity is 7.4 quarts.

Just changing the thermostat should not drain the entire system so you wont need that much.

The recommendation is above 30% but below 60% anti freeze to water to provide for proper freeze and anti-corrosion protection.

netvan

Is there a certain type of antifreeze I need to use for my 2003 Dodge Stratus

Many believe that most brands will give you very similar protection. What is very important is that you are aware not to use full strength anti-freeze. You can buy pre-mixed if you don't want to mix the anti-freeze and water yourself.
Most recommend about 50% anti-freeze, and 50% water. be sure to check the instructions on the bottle.

I hope this helps you.

The radiator warning light blinks red on startup, what kind of radiator fluid does the vehicle take? 2005 VW new beetle

VW have their own spec anti freeze/coolant, but any good quality upper market anti freeze can be used and some will even say that they are recommended by VW. Follow the directions on the container for mix and dilution.

Honda has a blue anti-freeze that comes in their radiators. It doesn't have additives that can damage the water pump. Look on the back of the anti-freeze and get one recommended for honda or go to a dealer.

My coolant light is on in my !995 Golf and i was wondering what coolant i need and is it just a simple case of topping it up?

it may only be a case of topping it off with anti-freeze depending on where you live in world, have anti-freeze checked for freezeing level. i recommend 20 degrees below 0 if alaska or that part of world,30 below0 if you top it off and light goes off, thats the problem. the overflow container has a sensor in it that makes the light come on to alert you that coolants low.you need to use the green antifreeze. if you have pets, clean up all spills as anti-freeze is deadly to animals and if consumed by children or adults deadly also. thank you for choosing fixya.com

CHANGE THERMOSTAT

Not a major task on your Cutlass...trace the upper radiator hose to the top of the motor...(intake manifold) you will find the thermostat inside the housing connection...held down by 2 10mm bolts...your replacement should be rated at 195 degrees...(usually the only one available for your V-6...Be sure to inspect your hoses for wear...you will lose (spill) some anti-freeze while removing the thermostat housing...I also recommend to buy a housing gasket as well as the inside gasket seal...these do not always come with the thermostat...Also use gasket sealant as no leaks are attainable...:) Have some anti-freeze handy to top off your overflow system after the installation is complete...you need to inspect while idling to be sure no leaks, and correct amount of anti-freeze in your overflow...2 measures are engine cold...and engine hot...Hope this helps...:)

Will not idle in cold weather

Try some gas line anti-freeze. Add a bottle to a full tank of good fuel (high octane from exxon, BP ect.). Also add a bottle of fuel system cleaner. I recommend sea foam. Keep the anti-freeze in your vehicle during cold weather. You will see a difference!
