What are some of the signs that transmition cluch plate is going out?

first question =---manual or automatic
next are there any other symptoms ( slipping, shudder on take off, difficult to select 1st gear or reverse )
I would be looking at the drive shaft "U" joints and cv joints first because once a clutch is engaged there will be no noise under acceleration of deceleration
look for failed engine/transmission mounts and suspension rubbers worn out

When it comes to Automatic Transmissions they are best left to the pros! If you know how to service it, try that first. Fluid, filter, check vacuum lines, and modulator.

Automatic transmision making grinding noise and will not move in drive or reverse

Loss of fluid or transmition pump went out. Replace as needed.

Transmition may need to be analyzed for any gear damage.

Where is the rev sensor on a 2001 ford ranger

You would most likely find it on the tail shaft housing on your transmition. That is towards the rear of the transmition near where the drive shaft enters the transmition. The sensor will have a 3 wire conector on it. It does not matter if it is a manual or automatic.
