I have a 2000 buick century 3.1 my security light still staying on after i changed the key cylinder and the electrical key switch whatelse can that be ??

Having the vehicle checked for codes should have been the first thing done . Security light on ,a code is stored in the control module that controls the anti-theft system ! This is if you want it fixed right !
Important: If the wrong ignition key is used in an attempt to start the vehicle, a Data Trouble Code (DTC) will be set and the Body Control Module (BCM) will not send a fuel enable or starter enable message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for three minutes even if the correct ignition is used.
The Pass-Key II® Theft Deterrent system prevents vehicle theft by disabling the starter motor and fuel system. If the Body Control Module (BCM) dose not identify the use of the correct ignition key to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will communicate a message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which will disable the crank relay and fuel delivery to the engine.
When the (BCM) identifies the use of the correct ignition key (resistor pellet) to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will send a fuel enable and starter enable message to the (PCM) which will allow the vehicle to start.

DTC B2957 Security System Sensor Data Circuit Low
DTC B2958 Security System Sensor Data Circuit High
DTC B2960 Sec Sys Sensor Data Incorrect but Valid
DTC B3031 Security System Controller in Learn Mode
DTC B3094 No Response from ECM/PCM Received

or you can do a by pass that may or may not work ! You could measure the resistance of the pellet on the side of the key , then go to radio shack a by a resistor of the same value ! Then find the wires under the dash that come from the ignition switch ! Solder the resistor into the harness side wires , not going back to ignition switch . The wires break or contacts inside ignition switch do . You could check resistance with ohm meter . Put key into the ignition switch , find those wires i said about before . Check resistance at the wires under dash , is it the same resistance as pellet ?

Tip

Camaro Resistor keys, Starting problems.

I fixed my 99 Z28 myself with a 20 cent resistor. Dont let GM fool you into buying a new ignition cylinder or even a new key. If your camaro has a Resistor key at one point most likely before 100,000 miles your gonna turn your key and your security light on your dash is going to flash2_bing.gif constantly and your car wont start. If you want a quick fix without all the hassle of changing the ignition cylinder and buying a new key that cost over 100 dollars parts only, labor to install much more, just take a ohm meter measure the ohms on your key. The little black chip at back of key has a metal piece on each side place meter probs on each side, look at ohms. Now go out to radio shack or an electronic wholesale place and buy that ohm resistor you may have to combine some to make the ohms it doesnt have to be exact within 15 ohms is fine. Now remove 4 screws holding bottom plastic cover under dash just below steering column, carefull of trunk release connector. Find a small 2 wire with black connector and a orange sleeve coming from steering column that covers wires almost down to connector, both wires are mostly white and very small, solder the resister across these 2 wires, heat shrink resistor or electrical tape. Bingo your car starts! And you never have to worry about this defect in the ignition cylinder again. If you still want the security feature just put a push button on the resistor across the wires and hide button under the dash. Trust me the new ignition cylinder will do the same thing again in the future, was a bad design on GM on this cylinder, wires move with ignition cylinder and eventually break. Hope this helps and saves money for you Camaro Fans!

Security light on car tumbles but wont start

You can spray contact cleaner into the lock cylinder to clean the contacts that touch the resistor in the key. Many GM cars have orange wire for the security lock coming out of the steering column. I used a ohm meter to measure the resistance of my Pontiac's key and it was 3000 ohms. Having had trouble with mine I plan to cut the orange wire (actually two inside the orange sheath) and rig up a make and female plug/socket and one extra plug that will have a 3000 ohm resistor on it. When mine refuses to see the key I can always reach under the dash and unplug the key switch plug and pop in the fixed 3000 ohm plug to bypass (or satisfy) the security system. This will make it think it sees the key resistor though it actually is reading a plain resistor of the right value.

How to turn my security system off on a 1993

This is a pretty easy fix if you follow my instructions. You must first take an ohm meter set at 20k and touch the leeds(one red and one black)one to either side of the chip key. You may have to put the key in a vise or holder to get a good reading. The reading will be the value of the resistor in the key. Go to radio shack and buy a resistor of the value shown (the meter must be set at 20k) then under the dash coming directly from the ignition you will find 2 thin white wires cut those wires. Strip the two ends leading back to the harness or firewall and splice the resistor you bought in between the two that were stripped. Effectively bypassing the resistor reading switch (ignition) in the security system

My 1993 firebird was running fine after changing ignition switch and now it will not crank? told it was the vats key mod. need to know how to bypass it and where its located

Is there a pellet in the key. This type can be bypassed the pellet pushes to resistors outward to a given value from #1 to #14 if you can read key resistance then go to a electronics store a by a resistor that value now crawl under dash by gas pedal you will find a orange cord with two white wires in it place resistor across both wires and cut wires off leaving the ones going up steering column open. turn key on if security light is flashing wrong resistance value. try again. a haynes manual should have all resistance values but key code.

How to bypass a keypass security module in a 1992 pontiac bonnevile

its a simple resistor in the head of the key... u need a multimeter to find the value of that resistor...then purchase a resister of the same value...try radio shack... and install it between the two vats wires...they are located under the dash and coverd by orange insulation.they are two small white wires....connect the resistor to the wires on the vehicle side...no longer need the ignition side of the wires.. that should bypass the vats and no longer need the key with the resistor built in
