My 2001 Chrysler pt cruiser will not start we have replaced the ecm ignition coil thermostat battery and low fan relay it doesnt even really roll over its kinda a quieter ticking when you turn the key im...

Have you tested the battery? You may have a bad starter solinoid.
Or a relay from ignition to the starter solinoid. And or bad connections to starter solinoid. The solinoid can be tested if the
battery is good, by a jumper from positive to the small terminal that controls the internals of the solinoid.

Wiring of starter

WWhen looking at the starter you will notice the solinoid mouted on top of it, the solinoid has one ten mm stud sticking out the rear of it with a short cable running down to another short stud sticking out of the rear of the starter motor. Connect the main battery lead to the stud on the solinoid before you reconnect the battery

Wont start turn over with key but can jump accross starter

solinoid for starter is bad. on a lot of fords the solinoid is mounted on fender, under hood. if you jump from one side to other on solinoid, and it tries to start then solinoid is toast. just follow the positive cable from battery. and you will find it.

2000 chevy impala, starter spins but does not engage

if the starter spins but does not engage flywheel. then its the starter solinoid thats bad. its on top of starter, when key is turned to start, the solinoid is activated, and it pushes the gears out to make contact with flywheel to start vehicle. so the solinoid just spins with out kicking out to flywheel. change solinoid or get another starter. have a good day !

I replaced the starter on a 1999 Chev Cavilier but when I went to start the car the starter kept trying to start the car even though the car was already running. I think i may have crossed one or a couple...

hi, i think you have put the MAIN HEAVY CABLE direct to the STARTER MOTOR on the SOLINOID. this will keep the starter motor running. take battery lead NEGATIVE CABLE OFF the BATTERY, and change the MAIN HEAVY CABLE from the SOLINOID terminal to the other MAIN terminal on the SOLINOID and NORMALLY it SHOULD go with a SLIGHTY (smaller cable this GO'S to the FUSEBOX rest of car POSITIVE FEED). the other small wire is the solinoid START WIRE. the solinoid has 2 circuits the first circuit is HEAVY BATTERY LEAD to 1 terminal on the solinoid. the other side of the solinoid HEAVY CABLE to STARTER MOTOR. this is only 1 side of the SOLINOID (THIS IS A VERY VERY HEAVY SWITCH). the other side of the SOLINOID is the START SIDE (REMOTE CONTACT) of the SOLINOID, by turning the IGNITION KEY to STARTER POSITION, this operates the SOLINOID. this makes contact to run the starter motor. once the connections are done REPLACE NAGATIVE BATTERY LEAD and start the car. gerry

When you turn the key - it just sort of clunks - like no starter - Also - is there a seperate Cellunoid swith - Where ids the starter located?

OK STARTER IS AT THE BACK LOWER PART OF ENGINE AT THE TRANS. THE SOLINOID FOR THE STARTER. FIRST MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED, THEN PUT CAR IN PARK AND JUMP THE SOLINOID OVER AT THE TWO BIG NUTS IF TURNS OVER REPLACE SOLINOID IF IT DOESNT REPLACE THE STARTER

Starter wont engage

The problem is either the starter solinoid (located on fender near battery) or you are not getting power to the "s" terminal on the starter solinoid from the ignition switch. If you follow the positive battery cable from the battery you'll follow it to the solinoid. Remove the small wire from the terminal marked "s" on the solinoid and using a screwdriver jump from "s" terminal (not the wire) to where positive battery cable connects to solinoid. (with battery connected). If starter doesn't do anything the solinoid is bad. If starter cranks then you are not getting voltage from ignition switch through "s" terminal wire.
