Question about 1993 Jaguar XJ6

2 Answers

1991 jaguar xj6 RADIO couldn't turn ON! The radio can't turn its power on by the switch, the security indicator keeps flashing all the time no matter the switch is "ON" or "OFF". the fuses are good and the relays that I COULD find (in the trunk for the antenna) are good as well. I have power GOING to the radio from all indications but it doesn't come on or flash CODE for me to enter, which I do have. Is there something I'm missing or is the radio just shot? Also I found no fuse on the radio it's self. Is there some SIMPLE fix out there? Or should I START SHOPPING? Thanks.

Same thing just happened to me. It could be a loose wire that is found behind the the glove box. I was doing some work to fix a clunk in the heater. And then it happened. My interior lights are also out now too. The security light is still flashing though. Wow, could they have made these vehicles any more complicated to work on? The heater would clunk when in any position but defrost. It turns out that the flaps that change the heater from each setting is powered by a tiny motor. That motor is controlled by a computer. What ever happened to a good old normal switch. Man, the new computer is going to cost like 500 bucks. Good thing I only really need the defrost

SOURCE: my trunk on my xj6 wont open at all.

The last Jaguar on which I corrected this problem had a nut loosen on the lock mechanism. I took out the rear seat and then the parcel shelf covering and then cut an access hole into the trunk.
That was a 1987 XJ6. I am not certain that you have similar access due to fuel tank location. If you take this on, be aware of that possibility.

SOURCE: I can nit open my trunk on my 1996 jAGUAR XJ6.

ok, if the key won't open this then the lock is jammed and if you don't want to damage anything, I know I wouldn't, I would take it to a mechanic. The jammed may have been what killed your battery if the valet trunk open was not working it may have been shorted out. There is a way to jump vehicles with the battery in the trunk like that but I am not familiar with it and if the buttin doesn't work to release the trunk it would do you no good anyway. most likely you are looking at replacing teh truck locking mechanism.

Radio in car is asking for code

I had this when I first got my 1991 XJ6 (XJ40). I contacted my local Jaguar dealer with the problem, and from the chassis number, he was able to give me the correct security code for the radio. If your car has the original radio still fitted, as mine had, then your local dealer should be able to do the same for you.

Radio code

  1. CODE ENTRY: The proper five digit code for the radio is listed on the two cards supplied in the radio security envelope. After installation or when the radio requires reprogramming the word "code" will appear on the display screen. Enter the code by using the preset buttons numbered 1 through 5 . If a "beep" sound occurs when the code is initially entered, it is then necessary to re-enter the code starting with the first digit. The "beep" sound was provided to indicate the starting point for code entry. If the code has not been properly entered after three successive attempts , the radio will then not accept any entry until the radio has been left "ON" for one hour (vehicle ignition must be "ON"). After one hour in the "ON" position, the radio will then accept three additional entry attempts. Also, if a push-button is touched accidentally when the ignition is "OFF", a warning tone will sound. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and the warning tone will stop.
  2. Radio security codes will not be given to anyone under any circumstance other than authorized jaguar dealer personnel after proof of vehicle ownership and proper identification has been established. A separate security envelope with the attached instruction is provided in each radio package. If the radio has been port installed, the security package will be placed in the vehicle glove box. NOTE: When the car arrives at the dealership, the radio will be in the inoperative mode even though it has already been installed. It is imperative that no attempts be made to install a tape cassette while the radio is in this mode. The cassette will not eject and damage may occur when removal is attempted.
