Question about 1989 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer

1 Answer

Battery is charged, when key turned nothing happens, and the headlights will not even come on. Almost appears that there is no power to the dash. Brand new battery and alternator.

Try cleaning or replacing battery cables. any corrosion can degrade the voltage. check the wiring behind the fuse block also. (loose wires..) your chevy may also have a fusible link between the battery and the fuse block.

When i put the key in ignition it has power but when i go to start it nothing happens, not even a click.

Sounds like either the battery has insufficient power to turn the engine over, or solenoid is stuck the starter motor. A quick check for the battery condition is to turn the headlights on for 10 seconds. If they dim very quickly or do not come on at all, then the battery will need a trickle charge. Check the battery indicator if one fitted or remove the tops from the chambers. Please be careful when removing these as battery contain acid and can be very corrosive, depending on battery condition. If headlights stay on for more than 10 seconds suspect solenoid being stuck.

Good luck. S

I have a 2010 Hyundai Veracruz had dead battery was dead, tried to jump start, no luck battery is fully recharged. Turning on key all dash lights and gauges works but nothing when key is turned on. N

If you are sure the battery is charged and nothing happens when you turn the key you have a poor wiring connection somewhere or possibly an poor connection internal to the battery. First, turn on the headlights, then try to start the car. If the headlights go dim when you do that, you have a bad connection. If they stay bright, you are not completing the starting circuit. The most likely cause is a bad battery post connection. Remove the terminals and clean them to shiny metal then replace and try again. If that does not work try it again with a new battery.

No power to dash, key in ignition does nothing.

If I understand correctly, the headlights and brakelights work but the vehicle will not start and the dash lights do not work. That sounds impossible, so I'll merely suggest that you check the battery connectors and see that they are tightened down snug.

You should not be able to easily move them with a pliers. Sometimes, if you loosen them just a tad, and twist them a little, and retighten, you get better contact.

Turn the key and nothing

Check battery cable connections. There should be a hot wire (hot at all times) to the ignition switch, and when key is turned the switch sends power out. Either the switch has lost the power in, or the switch is bad, not sending power out.
Do the headlights work? When key is turned to on, do the warning lights and gauges come on in the dash? Does the radio or any accessories work when key is turned? If nothing works, you need to check if the ignition switch is getting power from the battery.

My 2003 chevy tahoe, died while i was driving home. when i tried to start it, nothing happens. it doesnt try to crank or turn over, nothing happens, now my ABS and battery light is on.

OK if only 4 months old, charge it with an external battery charger. Once vehicle is running the quick and still most valid test I make is:
Running, with no accessories on, charge volts on volt meter (not dash gauge) should read between 12.9 &14volts. Turn all accessories and headlights on high beam. Volts should not read below 12.5v at idle and should not creep lower after running at any time, even after ten or fifteen minutes. If voltaqge is not as specified alternator has failed and needs replacement.
