Question about Nissan Sentra

The heating in my Nissan Sentra 2001, comes up about 30mins after starting the engine. Also the heat seems to be directed more towards the vents on passenger side. Can I fix this myself or this needs an expert?

What I am trying to say is that, after starting my car, I get only cold air. I only get hot air after 30mins of driving. Even after it comes on, it blows mostly to the passenger side. On the driver side, I get cold air blowing.

Why does the heat come on so late?

I have had the car since 2006. It is now on 130,000 miles. The heating problem just started this fall. That is about 2 months ago. The care does not overheat.

Welcome to FIxYa.com

Yes the vent is directed more on that side take a little wire and see if you can pull out any debris also check the blend door for operation(an expert can do this for you)

As for long time for the heat replace thermostat with a hotter degree

Thank you for using FixYa.com

I would replace the thermostat to a hotter degree and while you are there flush system out
Pull the fan motor and clean fan. Check inside fan house to see if any debris are in there, Lee

What comes up after 30 minutes? Have you tried changing the vents or do you mean it just blows harder from the passenger side? You may want to try closing a couple of the passenger side vents. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

How long have you owned the vehicle? How long have you had this problem? how many miles are on the vehicle? Could be a heater core problem. Your vehicle doesn't overheat at all does it? Once I have more information from you I can try and give you a more definitive answer.
    thank you,
    Lee

This issue has been brought up on fixya before. Most likely it is either air in the heater core, or bad heater core. Also when you change the settings you should listen for the blend door moving. If you feel both the heater hoses when the car is at full operating temperature one should be hot and one should be warm. You can try and bleed the system, otherwise sounds like you need a replacement heater core.
    Thank you,
    Lee

Put the defroster on and move your temp setting towards warm and youll feel it come out of there. Heat doesn't come through those vents on normal heater setting those are the defroster vents.

2003 nissan sentra no heat, over heating

If the engine has overheated, chances are pretty good that you now have a warped or cracked cylinder head and a blown head gasket. Those engines are very unforgiving when it comes to being overheated.

I have a 2001 nissan sentra 1.8 with 158,000 miles. Problem started a month ago,no heat while idling but when revved up or driving would have heat. Changed thermostat, bled system from bolt above thermostat...

unfortunately these engines are known for this condition and for head gasket failure.with engine cold pressurize cooling system with spark plugs removed.look down into holes with flashlight after about ten minutes.....im betting youll see a puddle of coolant on piston...usually its cyl# 2 or 3.i cant think of any other possibility for system repeatedly airlocking other than a head gasket.good news they are probably one of the easier ones to replace.

I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra and my heat is not working I have taken it to my mechanics and he can not figure out why it is not working he checked my head gasket and all heating coils, and even replaced the...

I would check the water pump for proper operation. The pump can fail where the shaft is disconnected from the impeller. The engine will spin the shaft but very little water pumping is done. This would explain why the engine coolant is not circulating very well especially into the heater where you need it.

The water pump can also have a bad bearing in it which would make it harder to turn and slow down engine cranking speed---making cold starts difficult. Also check that the battery is fully charged, the battery terminal connections are clean and tight, and you have the proper viscosity of oil in the engine.
