Hi

It sounds like you have left off the small earth lead or you have contacted some wires somewhere. go over the wiring again. what is quite common is a wire getting jammed between the altenator and the brace that holds it. most likely though it will be the small thin wire to the back of the alt, take a look at that first. also it could be a duff alt, check the main battery leads and earth wire to the gearbox also.

Hope this helps

Regards

Dan

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

1999 3.2l. Why are battery and brake lights on?

was not on before the new alt,? is alt new or used.?
or came on only after the new ALT?????????
my guess, is 2 failures.! (one ignored and 2nd grew)
on with engine running, guess yes.
Good question and is same answer on all cars.
1: engine rpm too low, what is yours (below 80 rpm)
2: fan belt slips. bad tension pulley (weak and old???)
3: Alt bad, or its wires bad.
4: brake level low, (@MC) or hand brake switch stuck on, or other brake failures. a plenty, scan the PCM and ABS if you have ABS.
id not drive it with the brake lamp on (Savvy?)
the battery light is really the ALT charge lamp.
it glows anytime the Charge system can not charge the battery
if you drive far like that, the engine will stall and not crank.

5: the horn fuse power the alternator, so check the horn fuse
10amp , key on, 12vdc on both sides of fuse is needed/
fyi: the meter fuse runs the charge lamp, if said lamp is dead bingo.
6: fact 2, the PCM does NOT run the Alternator on the 3.2L .
7: alternator case not grounded right.
8: battery is bad, causing alternator to drop off line
9: battery cables bad, at the 4ends or they are bad.
10: the plug on the rear of alt is bad or its wires or pins rusty.

brakes:
the brake lamp has 3 inputs ("OR" logic) master cylinder level low.
the hand brake lever and the EBCM (electronic brake control module)
a technician unplugs each to see what causes the error.
if you unplug mC wire and hand brake wire
then the EBCM is UNHAPPY, scan it.

1991 toyota pickup 6 cyl.manual tranny 4x4 coming home the other day poped out of cruise and brake light and battery light came on

Brake light and battery light coming on mean the Alternator may have died on you. Check the alternator, it may be bad. The popping out of cruise may have happened because it did not have enough current flow, due to alternator failure.

The brake and battery light came on? I changed battery and the lights didnt go off?

Battery light usually indicates alternator failure. Check alternator.
Brake light indicates brake issue. Brakes must be inspected for leaks, check reservoir fluid level, etc.

Will the oil light brake light and battery light go off when i replace the alternator

just the battery light will go out when you replace the alternator, that is, when the car is running. It is normal for the battery light to be on when the ignition is on but the engine is not turning the alternator (running).

The oil light and brake light are different than the alternator circuit.

1984 volvo battery light is on

CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE. IT SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS. IF NOT CHARGE BATTERY HAVE IT LOAD TESTED FOR DEAD CELLS. MAKE SURE BATTERY CABLES IS CLEAN AND TIGHT. FREE FROM CORROSSION. NOW IF BATTERY CABLES IS THE ORIGINAL CABLES. REPLACE THEM. NOW CHECK THE ALTERNATOR OUTPUT. USING A DIGITAL VOLT METER.IT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS.WITH CAR RUNNING IF NOT REMOVE ALTERNATOR HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AT AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS .BESURE TO TURN OFF RADIO.BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.BECAUSE IF YOU DONT.YOU WILL LOSE RADIO CODE.AND RADIO WONT PLAY WHEN YOU TURN IT ON.

The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem
