Question about 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Low oil pressure light comes on and engine won't turn over. Everything else works but no power going to starter. Wait about one hour and a half and it starts fine. Oil level is OK. Is there an oil pressure sensor? Where is it located? Could it be a sensor that is giving a bad signal to a computor and prevents starting?

    Thank you. Will share your comments with my dealer. I believe they checked the starter solenoid and voltage and found it to be OK. Now they believe it is a sensing unit that has to do with the security system that for some reason, on a randam basis, a signal doesn't get from the ignition key to the starter. Their computer dedected some code that lead them to that. New sensor/transducer is on order and will see if that corrects the problem. These unknown results and the question of will the car start each time make owners want to consider trading for a new one. Thanks again.

First thing to do is check the power to starter with a volt meter.

A. From the battery to starter positive cable check to see if you have continuity.

B. Check the voltage at starter. Red lead of tester to the positive connection and the black lead from meter to a good ground.

Results should be: A. continuity And B. !2 volts

If the results of the above or not what your results are then stop and write to me. If your results are as above continue on to the second test.

Second thing i need you to do is get a Hammer

Now do you know where the starter is ? OK (see diagram)

you will need someone to help you- have this person get in the truck key in ignition -- you go to starter hammer ready holler START ENGINE then tap on the starter with hammer. Will it start?

Now tap the solenoid . It is the little round container on top of starter tap that too. Will it start?

This is an easy way to see if the truck starts if so starter is bad.

    My diagnosis is based on suggestion and is not most accurate do to i am not there to physically hand on testing for you and i am sure by the way you described ,the multimeter test (if you had one) would help Me (as An expert for you to use your hands for me). That was not the case. No power getting to the starter could be many things. And anti theft is one . So i am glad they found the problem. The warning light means the engine oil pressure is low, not necessarily that the oil level is low.
The problem could be the pressure switch, or you really could have low oil pressure.
Driving the car with low oil pressure will damage the engine.

2001 chrysler town & country oil light is on

If you are taking the car to the garage or a mechanic, mark the oil filter before leaving home to make sure the filter is changed. After the oil has been changed when you return home you can check the filter to see if it was changed because the oil will only be changed. Since some mechanics know an owner of a vehicle will not check. Also, AutoZone have a very good quality oil for the chrysler town and country. Good Luck

Check oil light comes on at a stop and while idling

this is a light that indicates low oil pressure or low level, 1st check the oil level in the engine when it is hot, if that is ok you will need to have the oil oil pressure tested with a specail mechanical test gauge, don't wait on this, low engine oil pressure or level can quickly lead to engine failure, have a shop check this ASAP if level is ok and light still comes on.

Engine sounded noisy & scratchy when i drove to school oil light on. Got back to car after 10 mins everything came on (radio etc) but when i went to turn it over everything just cut out like dead...

after the vehicle cooled completely and all the oil drained down it showed half full? that would mean it was anywhere from 2 to 2.5 quarts low? unless you mean that it showed halfway up the full / safe area on the dipstick.

the oil light being on usually means low oil or low oil pressure, if the vehicle still doesn't try to start after it is completely cool then you might have a locked up engine or multiple problems, check the oil again now that it has been sitting awhile look for water in the oil also check for oil in the water.

check battery connections again, make sure they are tight, if lights and such work then try to get a jump from someone. even new batteries can go bad

I would definitely be worried about that oil light though.

What is the correct oil pressure on a 1988 vw cabriolet

a plunged oil filter will do this so will a bad oil reg.
try changing your oil and get a new filter
also you may have had the incorrect filter on it "some shops do this"

Could be that your Oil pump is getting clogged or may not be fuctioning properly. Isnt getting enough power while at a low idle because its clogged.... When your stopped or in your driveway with the light on put your car in neutral and set the parking break and rev the motor up to 2200 RPM's and see if the light turns off.. If i does then that is most likely your problem.

Light on dash

I believe this is the oil pressure light and the helicopter is a picture of the motor. Please check you have sufficient oil in the engine.
1. If on - turn off the engine. wait for half an hour for it to cool.
2. Check the dipstick has the oil showing on it between the two scored marks, near the bottom of it.
3. if the oil shows near the tip at the end of the stick or below the scored line, please put oil in the engine before driving away.
4. Consult the user manual or an engineer on how to add new oil.
