Question about 2004 Honda Accord

4 Answers

Electrical problems I recently bought an 04 Accord LX 2.4L, now has 53K. When I am driving it the radio/clock randomly shuts off. The display stays dark for anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. Once the clock comes back on, I can turn the radio back on. It seems to happen most often when I put it in reverse, step on the brake or turn the wheel far (like to turn into a parking spot). It does not happen 100% of the time, but fairly often. I have not been able to attribute it to anything such as temperature, time of day or speed differences. I had the battery and altenator checked and they are fine. It is completely stock and there are no other issues I know of. Is there anything ele I can check on? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Same exact problem here. I have an '04 Accord and the radio/clock shuts off randomly for 1-5 minutes and then the clock comes back on. Then I'm able to turn the radio on. What gives?

I have pretty much the same issue; however, my display has not turned back on (it's been about 5 days) & I can still play the radio & CD player - just no display.

Sounds like it could be the vehicle wiring or related connectors at fault. There may be a short circuit to earth in the wiring, or quite simply the connectors may be loose in the sockets - sometimes when you go over a bump in the road it jars the cabling or connectors enough to temporarily disconnect the supply to the radio.

My wife brought hers to the dealership a couple of times, the first couple of times they refused to admit there was a problem because it would not happen in the 30 seconds they took to look at it. Then the stereo system got so bad it was happening (shutting off) every minute or so. We recently took it to the dealer and they now see the problem. They claim it is an internal short in the stereo head unit. They had to remove the stereo head unit from the dash and they mailed it off for repair. They said it will take around 6 weeks to be repaired and returned. That was about 5 weeks ago they shipped it off. This issue is covered under the extended warranty my wife purchased with the car. It is a 100K mile warranty and she has 99K on the car. They sure know how to time their stuff to break.

I have one Honda Accord 1999. One time, when I was driving, brake and steering wheel locked; oil light, battery light and brake light were on. What's happened to my car?

I have '99 accord LX 4cyl sedan and the ignition switch is a problem for these cars. I replaced my ignition 2 or 3 years ago because it would randomly shut off and sometimes not start back up right away. It only got worse until I fixed it, it would die on the highway or freeway sometimes. Haven't had that problem since. i think it cost like $240 or so. Also if you have an automatic, be careful, they are notoriously bad for going out after 100k miles. mine did and its an expensive fix. good luck.

04 Honda Accord EX : The cruise control master switch clicks off immediately after it is pressed; the air bag light comes on and stays on for several days and then goes off all to start the cycle again;...

your problem is a part called a clock spring located underneath the steering wheel.best to have a shop replace it for you, special wheel puller is required to remove the steering wheel, this part carries wires for all controls and air bag that are control by the steer wheel buttons.

Electrical problem headlights, radio does not stay on when ignition off

RE: Radio

If you mean the radio doesnt retain the memory presets and clock when you shut the car off or turn the key to the 0 position

that could mean that the yellow wire was not connected to the red or hot/positive lead when the radio wiring harness was connect

if this worked before and now it does check the main fuse box
also some radios have a inline fuse connected on the radio wiring harness (behind radio so you'll have to remove it to check, same thing with checking that the yellow wier is connected)

not sure what you mean by "electrical problem headlights"
some cars shut off the electrical current to the head lights (only power to running/park lights) when the ignition is shut off or the key is at position 0
