Question about 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

1 Answer

I have a 1988 jeep grand wagoneer, in the last six months i tore a apart the front side of the motor, replaced timing chain, starter, starter relay, ignition switch, all belts and vacume lines, and converted ignition to hei. Problem is i have no power to dash and when i try to turn it over i get nothing, also when i put the key in the ignition the buzzer comes on, no radio and no dash lights. Battery is good about six months old. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Replace cam sensor on 2000 4.7 v8 grand cheerokee

Put front emd on ramp, carry out all the safety stuff, block wheels, disconnent battery, wear safety glasses etc etc.
The crankshaft sensor is behind the starter motor, see pic, remove the two bolts (15mm) from the starter motor, move it to one side as in pic, You can then get at the sensor, use 13mm socket remove bolt then twist the sensor out, I had to use a screwdriver to break the seal and lever it a little.
total time about 40 mins start to finish

I have to bump the key a couple of times before my 1988 jeep wagoner will start. Turn it on off a couple of times before the starter will crank.

The starter is bad,the contacts in the stater are worn out.The sad part is,they are not replaceable.Contacts took the place of starter brushes. The new starters are low gear, permanent magnet built.Purchase a new starter and be done with it.I hope this was some help,if so,please let us know, thank you.

I have a 1990 Jeep grand Wagoneer and iam having a problem locating the starter, help

You need to get under the front end of the truck - safely...
To the left or right of the fly wheel.. The fly wheel is a realy big round gear..
The starter will be mostly sylinder shape..
Should be easy to find..
