Relay must have shorted on. Look for a relay in the engine compartment relay box labeled PKLP or PARK. Pull it out and the lights should go out. When you push it back in, it should click. If it doesn't click but the lights come on, the relay is shorted on. Try putting a different realy in the socket to make sure this is the problem. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Welllllll, that solved nothing.
The parking lights are as bright as ever . . .hmmmm . . .
Swich connector is seperated from switch, the relays, 4 at all, are resting comfortably next to my computer, reinserting and replacing did zilch . .
Is there a possibility, that a B source has managed to close the circuit? Like: A worn thru 20 year of connection ??? Break-down in 1991 insulation??? Do I need to trade the nicely running van in on a newer piece of junk??? and make it some one else's problem???
Just kiddin', I want to find and fix!
    Got me stumped.

yes, your car is haunted. Unfortunately I do not have the diagram. Usually it's the switch or the relay. I've never seen them work without the relay. Was there maybe damage to the relay box? Maybe terminals under the box are shorted? Was one of the relays marked PARK, or what were the labels? Maybe there's another box with a few more relays. Seems to me some of the Fords had a few relays mounted on the firewall near the brake master cylinder...

    Perhaps, i need some clarification?
The only "set of relays", which I found, are on the left, inside engine compartment, near the hood by the battery, By the intermediate relay, by the brake master cylinder. getting to that location required a few extra cuss words.
No relay panel, by the passenger kick panel and I just ain't found nothing else. Did I miss something? Other than the fuse box I have not found anything that resembles plug in relays. I did chunk the $19.95 parts store bought , useless "repair " manual on the burn pile.

    Haunted, you say?

I'm better with large displacement, ship borne Diesel engines and automobiles haunt me, often.

Well, Mr. Ghost Buster, lets chase this one down.

The extra relays I'm thinking of were not in a box. Maybe they are on the other side.
I have another idea though. We have a Ford expert that would probably know this off the top of his head. His moniker is "emissionwiz". If you were to put in a new problem request with his name up front on it, he may see it and help you out. Sorry I was not successful.

I thank you for your attempt. Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained.
I shall try as you have suggested.
I'll delay the 'accidental" spark in the engine compartment for a while . . .LOL. Have a great day and iffen and when I get a positive resolution, I'll post the repair.

Headlight switch

Remove the front dash plate, and remove the switch. If im correct for the year, the switch "pulls" towards the driver, and has three positions. Off, parking lights, and headlights/all. This switch wears out over time, and it may be the problem. Look at it, and with the battery disconnected, prod around at the contact points and do a continuity test. Good luck!

99 f350 and parking lights won't shut off when turned off

The headlight switch could be damaged but to disconnect the radio first as some radios that did'nt come with the car may be connected wrong and power is going from the power wire at the radio to the dash light circuirt feeding thouth it to the regular lights. pulling the cig lighter fuse solves the problem points you to this answer.

I have a 1997 Ford F150 and we just removed the dash and replaced the blend door for the heater. We put everything back together and we now don't have any blinkers or tail lights. We do have headlights.

Hello! You probably don't want to hear this but...Take your dash apart until you can view all connectors. Find the brown lead in the headlight switch connector...This lead feeds tail/turn signal lights..With key on...Turn on headlight switch and check for battery on brown wire...If there is no battery...Turn off key...disconnect negative battery terminal...Using an ohm meter set on the X10 scale...Trace lead back to fuse block; you are looking for an open. Check the fuse (15amp).

Next check that dash has a solid ground connection to the body.

Keep me informed via comments.

Is it possible that my radio in my 1991 Aerostar could be sapping my battery?

It surely is possible. When you disconnect your battery if you look and listen closely you will hear and see a spark if there is a drain. Then take the radio fuse out and try it again.

1993 Ford Aerostar Parasite drain on battery

id check the ignition coil to ensure its not arcing that seems to be a problem on the aerostars. One thing ive known people to do and recommend for troublesome times when they cant find whats draining the battery. Is to get a battery cut off switch and install it which is fairly easy and takes ten minutes. But first check the ignition coil to see if its arcing, also check to see if you can find whats drawing power by chasing it down with a multimeter.

Thanks,
Nate

1996 ford aerostar van light switch

I took it to the Ford dealership. Don't ever let a shade tree mechanic work on your electrical. It turns out, someone wired the alarm totally wrong. Which shorted out my headlight switch.
