Question about 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck

1 Answer

I have a 2000 dodge 1500 extended cab and can't open the rear doors. The problem is in the latch mechanism unit that is mounted to the underside of the door. the claw (thats what i call it) won't disengage. The rod that goes down to the lever arm and the lever arm itself all seem to be working properly the top latch is working. It's the latch mechanism unit which is mounted to the underside of the rear door. I can't figure out how to open the door to get to mechanism unit to repair or fix it. Any suggestions? >>

Had the same problem with my 99 ram. The problem is the bottom latch. It freezes up due to under use. The only way I could get mine open to fix it was to pull the door handle and get inside the cab and kick the door at the bottom at the same time as pulling the handle to get the latch to let loose. Had to kick it hard and several times. Good luck

Cannot open the rear doors on a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab. The door will move just not open.

Are the doors locked, but not quite latched? If they're definitely not locked, then you may have to peel the inside door panels out to get to the strike mechanisms.

99 ford f150 extended door doesn't open. It seems that the latch on top of the door is stuck or disconnected from the handle.

Remove the interior door panel this can be done with the door closed. peel back the moisture barrier, look inside the door and you will see a latch mechanism with two cables next to it, the top cable releases the top latch and the bottom cable releases the bottom latch, the top latch cable is probably not mounted to the latch (anchored) you will probably have to replaace it with a new one, then it should work fine. Hope this helps, let me know

2000 2wd Dakota Quad cab, right rear door latch

Sounds like either a linkage rod came off or the interior handle is broken. either way you have to take the interrior door panal off to see which it is.

pull the door panel and unbolt the latch from the inside if that is not possible cut the part the latch attaches to on the body with a diegrinder

Can't open quad cab door on 1998 dodge ram 1500

The bottom latch was rusted locked. I had to pull on bottom rod after top was already released and kick out the bottom of the door. I had to replace the bottom latch.
