Question about 1996 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

I haven't started my car in a good three months. I have a 1996 Camaro RS. It previously started just fine, but now when we try to start it, it makes a sort of 'clanking' sound. Like metal striking on metal.

Thats the start solenoid. Your battery may be weak or your starter needs some help after electric moters like starter motors sit they can build up gunk between the brushes and the metal making them not do much. If you take off the starter and then using jumper cables hook up the large bolt with the positie and then just touch the negative to the small bolt it should just about take off like a rocket so be careful. If it does nothing then you need a new starter or you can rebuild that one.

96' RS Camaro was running fine when I stopped, got in tried to start and nothing. Its getting power but it wont turn over.

Check the battery posts for corrosion. You can pour Coke on it while using a wire brush to clean the cables.
If this isn't the issue, then it is most likely your starter. Your starter is located on you passenger side right next to your header. Tap on it with a hammer while having someone simultaneously try and start the car. If this works then you will need to replace your starter in the near future.

1991 Camaro RS v-6 will start but dies almost immediately

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.

92 RS Camaro, Replaced battery and now car has no power?

are your battery post bolts clean and tight, my 89 rs ran fine untill i decided i wanted shiny new battery bolts, when i put them in and tightened them down my car had no power at all, i checked how tight they were, and they were TIGHT so i wiggled the black cable and re tightened it and bam my lights turned on, tryied starting it, and it started, sometimes you just gotta make sure the connection is really good, not just how tight it is, also check your ground wires, there are a few but the main 2 are located at the front pass side next to the batt, and on the back firewall going from the bottom pass head to the firewall, hope that helps, if not comment back

1996 Camaro RS suddenly wont start - anti theft problem?

You can start it by putting into program mode...try to start, then turn it to off..,,then turn it to on (not start)..leave it on for 15 min...turn it to off for 2 min..and start..

This will reset the signal from the bcm to the pcm of the car.

you most like ly have a problem in the start switch key reader...It has to be replaced as a unit

Or it could be your bcm or pcm...very very expensive... try this first... If it does not work off to the dealership..don't even try to give this to a garage to fix. Gm has the software to reflash your computer.
