I have a Mk2 Golf GTI 2l 16v and i had the motor redone 3 months ago. It was ok until now, it stared pinging, making loud tapping noises from the hydraulic lifters and over heating quite a bit.
people told me to change the lifter, oil pump and valves at the crank, had that change running for two days and still the car is pinging and quite loud.
When I push the car hard, over 4000rpm the motor will refuse to pull and makes a type of blowing noise, you cant really describe that until you feel it.
Really need some help now spent over R20000 and still the motor is not running!!
What should I DO?
Ive had this problem the loud tapping noise if properly you have the wrong oil in the engine the lifters only have a very small hole in for the to get in so if it to thick it cant get in causing the slapping noise.
"over 4000rpm the motor will refuse to pull and makes a type of blowing noise" Iv had the same problem it just refuses to pass 5000rpm, my car was breaking up because it was running lean. Check your fuel mixture. Is your exhaust burning a brownish colour? mine was,and now its just fine.
