Question about Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

I can start the car and go to get gas when I try to start it again sometimes it takes 1 hour before the security will reset. How do I disable or remove the alarm system.. On the window it shows to be a sound box add on. Also the togle switch under the dash will not disable the alarm to enable it to start. It is quite inconveinent. 1993 Cadillac Deville.

I found the power wires to the add on alarm system. The power wire was under the dash on the reivers side by the steering colum. I removed the whole add on system. The car starts any time and no problems having to wait anymore. The add on system had 3 fuseable links and 4 relays along with it's control box. The only problem now is the radio doesn't work ,power door lock on the passenges front door doesn't work and the remote key fob doesn't work....I'm still happy the car starts anytime I need it to.

Your cadillac has a factory security system too and it does n't have to be the add on system. But lets say it is the add on system. remove the under dash covers so you can see the under dash wiring. GM does a nice job of making their wires nice and neatand add on installers make a mess and tape and tie wire their added stuff on. Looking for such mess find the control box. it should have the sound box name on it. pull it down where you can see it and the wires connected to it. look for the GM wires that got cut to connect this device. remove them from the device and connect them as before the device was put in they usally only cut two wires and just add connectionsto others not cutting them this thing will porbly still do some of it's functtions if you just fix the ct wires and leave the rest of ti hooked up. or just unhook it all but make sure theres no GM wires unhooked. The passengers front door lock, may be the acuator motor has worn out or the wire is bad. The door panel off and the acutor motorhas an electrical connector on it, Before saying it's plumb bad just work the plug while trying to work the lock switch. If you have the door panel off the door switches will need to be connected before it'll work correctly. If it still does'nt operate, disconnect the wire and test it with a test light. One wire will be ground and the power will come on the other wire working the switch. The controller youremoved was also connected to the door lock and also the door unlock wires. Most of the time they use a fold over type wire tap. Once you open this tap to remove the wire the wire it'self might be cat though, If the locks work with the door switches you know the fuses are good. The factory remote uses this same wire to lock and unlock the doors right where they tapped the wires the remote reciever is near their it's possible that they removed the fuse for the remote as they added a different one< I do. The radio has the engine control system's monitoring reader in it so it'll be nice to get it working On the drivers side front fender where the main fuse panel is if you take the big cover off that covers all the relays and other fusable links you might find one removed or blown and the other place to check is in the trunck on the drivers side under the interior trim, theirs another fuse box there. The body computer and it's relays and fuses are also located in the trunk and you need to remove the trunk liner cover to get to them. with the liner out it's on the back side of the rear seat back, in the trunck, thiers relays and another fuse panel, It;s best to check these with a test light as pulling theem and looing at em all will take a lot of time. Most are key on fuses but some are powered all the time. It won't hurt anything to put fuses in all the empty places and replace all the blown ones and then go around and see what works. Do put all the covers back on as this area is a good place for expensive damage that's why their in the safest place in the car ( back of the rear seat) They though more about them than even you. Yawl rate senser is here, and the traction control computer and the ride control computer. Think that sounds expensive ( it is)

How do I reset security system on my 2000 Bonneville?

Put the key into ignition and turn it to RUN position. All dash lights will illuminate. Don't try to start the car. Leave the key in the ignition for about 5-10 minutes or until security light will stop flashing. The car should start after that. Security lock on the Pontiac disables the injectors, so the engine should crank. If it does not, you may want to check ignition switch, fuse and relay for the starter. Try to reset security first. Sometimes the magnet in the ignition lock cylinder gets dirty and needs cleaning. written by AlexGS
If the above procedure does not work the first time, try again, but right at the start insert key in and out of ignition several times to get good contact, as your key or ignition could be faulty.

It sounds like your ECU might be having some troubles. Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour, then reconnect it and start it up. Let it run for maybe 10 minutes without driving to let the ECU reset. Then take the vehicle on a short drive to let the ECU gain info on the fuel and air conditions.

Looks like the TDM in the security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars and it can get worse till the car wont start anymore. You can find a great write-up here: , it was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.
