Yes more than likely it will, unless the cover has been damaged due to hitting something with it.

Rear axel leaking ford 1997 f 250

If it's leaking then it needs a gasket put on or RTV GASKET MAKER put on the cover or it's just simply cracked some how if it's the cover then take a drop pan drain the remaining fluid and clean both surfaces very good possibly spotless then apply the RTV high torque grey sealant gasket maker very thick around the edge and center where the bolts are and re apply the cover but make sure it lines up and is very clean inside also if it's a slip posi rear end you will need a bottle of friction conditioner and 3 1/2 bottles of motor craft differentail fluid as recommended by ford and remove the filler plug after the RTV is dry and refill the rear axel and if it remains to leak either you sealed the cover wrong or bad plug otherwise the axel is cracked and needs to be replaced

Oil leak on driveway coming from front of engine

Dear Sir,
Here is the oil leaking Problem Identifying Technique

Engine oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are common.

  • The intake manifold plenum gasket may leak and cause increased oil consumption/burning and a spark knock during acceleration; the gasket should be replaced.
  • External oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets (front or rear), and the rear crankshaft (rear main) seal area are common. The rear main seal is an unlikely source. Normally, the bearing cap mating surfaces (as well as the sealing surface between the oil pan and bearing cap) are the source for the leaks.
  • Engine oil leaks at the distributor can be misdiagnosed as leaks from theintake manifold seal, oil pan gasket, or rear crankshaft (rear main) seal. A revised distributor is available if oil is found inside the distributor.
  • If the oil filter casing shows signs of distortion from excessive oil pressure, theoil pump should be replaced.
  • Often misdiagnosed as a leaking oil filter gasket, the oil filter adapter can seep from between the adapter and engine block.
  • Carbon buildup on the top of the piston is common. As the buildup increases with mileage and over time, symptoms may vary from light ticking, to ticking/hammering, to hammering/knocking noises. Fuel injector cleaner often solves the problem.

Pin hole leak in rear differential fluid

I really don't think you can dent the "Pumpkin" per se, since it's made of Cast Steel and that would mean its probably a crack... Do you mean the pumpkin 'cover' is dented and has a pin hole? Either way, if there is a crack/pin hole in the Diff, I'd be extremely careful.. And make sure the damage is minor since your dealing with something that can explode on you going down the road - causing the rear wheel's to lock up..!

My 1994 town car is leaking fluid from around the rear end pumpkin

The pinion seal is a common place for the differential to leak. I would also check the differential housing vent to make sure it's not plugged.

2004 Explorer: Rear differential cover is leaking, how do I fix i...

put flat pan under the housing remove the bolts holding the cover usually 10 or 12 (1/2 or #12 metric) bolts? allow the rear end grease to drain... then scape off the old gasket clean with brake cleaner spray install either new gasket or form one with oil resistant silicone put the cover back on , dont refill the fliud for at least 12 hours if using silicone. Also check the front driveshaft rear end yoke seal....they sometimes leak making the illusion of a rear end pan cover leak...if that is leaking you remove the shaft carefully...remove the large yoke retaining nut, replace the press in seal...be sure retaining yoke nut is properly torqued when reinstalling .

    Rear end cap leaking

The usual cause for this is pin holes in the cover caused by rust from the inside. You need to replace the cover, actual performance shop chrome covers are the cheapest and actually last longer. You also need a tube of silicon to make a new gasket for it.

My rear pumpkin ball /transfer case is leaking . is there a seal to change

If you are talking about the rear diff case. The seal can be change usually either a rubber gasket or hi temp silicone, just scrape off the old gasket from the diff and the the cover. Make sure its clean before you put on the gasket or silicone whichever its has. Put a good amount of silicone around the diff cover and bolts holes. Make sure to get some rear diff fluid and fill it back up w/funnel. Its either on the diff cover w/ a rubber cover or on the side of the diff itself w/ 3/8 ratchet. Fill till up till it starts to drip out then tighten back up.

Its a 2003 cts and there is a leak by the rear differential? its underneath the car towards the back end.

More then likely, it's the gasket that seals the pumpkin, or at worst, if you hit something you could have split, or cracked the pumpkin.

Your dealer is the best place to find out what it is, unless you have the apptitude to crawl under it and check to see whee the elak is from, or do a visual on the pumpkin.

You DO NOT want the rear end going dry ever..big bucks repair if that happens.

I hope this solves your question.

    Thanks for leting FixYa.com...fix ya

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE LOW ON REAR AXLE FLUID. CHECK YOUR FLUID LEVELS AND MAKE SURE IF YOU TOP OFF THAT YOU USE THE SPECIFIED OIL GRADES. IF GRINDING NOISE PERSISTS THAN YOU SHOULD HAVE CHECKED OUT. COULD BE BAD LIMITED SLIP CLUTCHES OR BEARINGS. LIGHT COULD BE ON DUE TO LOW FLUID LEVELS. MAKE SURE TO CHECK BOTH DRIVE AXLES AS WELL AS TRANS. AND TRANSFER CASE.
