Question about Mini Cooper S
Normally, door panels are held in place simply with plastic pins on the panel which insert into holes in the door.First, make sure there are no other light panels with screws in them which may be also holding in the panel. If you open the door, you should see where the panel separates from the door.Start on the bottom corner by prying with a flat screwdriver. It may take a little force to get it started but eventually they unseat. You will most likely end up breaking a couple of the pins(I do almost all of the time)but they are available at most national auto parts stores, are pretty cheap, say 8 for $1.50 or so,and basically universal. There are many different types though, maybe 10.Very easy to find though.Disconnect the top part of the panel last because it usually has some curve and you have to lift it up to finish removal. Also,if it isn't the mechanism, the wires for it are encased in a plastic tube between the door and frame.Be careful if you cut it open because there are a few wires, but it's not difficult.Just seal it back up good also. For looks, perhaps some duct tape covered with the same color tape as the plastic.Yes,my wife would want that, lol. If it is ribbed plastic, make sure to get a good seal so water doesn't get in.To check the motor,if you can figure out which wire is for open and which one for close, try switching them.If it does the opposite, opens but doesn't close, the actuator is bad yes.If it stays the same, there is something else likely wrong. Also if it doesn't work after you try fixing, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post. Please list everything you ended up doing also.Good luck,Greg
