Question about Mini Cooper S

2 Answers

Need to remove the interior door panel of mini cooper S 2005. Found and removed the two large screws, but still does not budge or come off. N I need to look inside as the remote unlocking mechanism for drivers door (only) is not functioning to OPEN. Works to CLOSE, but not to Open.

    Angelo,
Thanks alot as the links you supplied were especially helpful with good photos, etc. I did get the door panel off with your help. I could add for others with a similar issue, the sliding back of the rubber arm rest to expose a torx screw, on the year 2004+ Mini's has to be used with a very rigid flat tool as a thin plastic one will bend and NOT depress adequately the hidden interior latch mechanism.

I have the door panel off, but am not understanding the electro mechanical connections for the door locking setup. To be more complete: my issue is: I leave the car and press the remote key which LOCK all the 3 doors, but when I depress later it to enter the car, ONLY the passenger door unlocks (rear trunk Opens OK too). The mechanism on both the driver side and passenger sides makes a noise, etc. but does not lift the button (driver side). I have tried this from the inside of the car and the door stays locked and cannot be opened manually using the door latch until I depress the key remote button. SO to enter the car i now have to open the passenger door and reach in and unlock the driver door from the interior by pulling on the door exit latch.

Any suggestion on this? Thanks. Alex

    Angelo,

I sent you a long reply on this, but did not see if it went through. There was no indication from FixYa that the "reply" was accepted. Am trying it again w/o all my text.

Normally, door panels are held in place simply with plastic pins on the panel which insert into holes in the door.First, make sure there are no other light panels with screws in them which may be also holding in the panel. If you open the door, you should see where the panel separates from the door.Start on the bottom corner by prying with a flat screwdriver. It may take a little force to get it started but eventually they unseat. You will most likely end up breaking a couple of the pins(I do almost all of the time)but they are available at most national auto parts stores, are pretty cheap, say 8 for $1.50 or so,and basically universal. There are many different types though, maybe 10.Very easy to find though.Disconnect the top part of the panel last because it usually has some curve and you have to lift it up to finish removal. Also,if it isn't the mechanism, the wires for it are encased in a plastic tube between the door and frame.Be careful if you cut it open because there are a few wires, but it's not difficult.Just seal it back up good also. For looks, perhaps some duct tape covered with the same color tape as the plastic.Yes,my wife would want that, lol. If it is ribbed plastic, make sure to get a good seal so water doesn't get in.To check the motor,if you can figure out which wire is for open and which one for close, try switching them.If it does the opposite, opens but doesn't close, the actuator is bad yes.If it stays the same, there is something else likely wrong. Also if it doesn't work after you try fixing, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post. Please list everything you ended up doing also.Good luck,Greg

Removal of rear door lift hatch interior plastic panel on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan to push out dent in metal door from the inside.

The rear door panel is secured to the door using screws and clips. The screws will be in the handle used to close the door and there may be plastic plugs in the handle hiding the screws. Once these screws are removed, the handle will come off. Look for any more screws along the panel. If there are more, they will be visible. Once the screws are removed, pull on the panel to release the clips that secure it to the door. These clips will require some force to release them and will make a snap/pop sound once released. You may have to put a screwdriver/wedge between the panel and door to start the process of releasing the clips

How can i remove door skin on '97 dodge caravan mini van to repair power window?

you don't remove the door skin, you remove the interior door panel. Find and remove all screws in door panel, they will be located under panel, behind interior door handle, armrest area, you might have to remove plastic plugs that have screws behind them. Panel will have plastic clips all around perimeter, panel will pull towards you from edges to release these clips, lift panel up and it will come off. You will have to disconnect any wiring. now you can get into the door to get to window regulator and motor.

How do i remove the drivers side door panel on a jag s type

This is the same front or rear door. 1. remove rubber insert at the bottom of the arm rest/door handle 2. remove the 2. philip head screws. 3. run hand along bottom edge of door panel to ensure no other securing screws. 4. starting at the top rear edge of the door panel side a large flat screw drive/door panel tool(what ever you have) 5. lift sharply and you will here poping noises fromt the push clips lifting out of the socket. 6. as you work down the rear edge of the door panel you will see the trim around the interior door handle lift away. remove it. 7. the interior door handle will remain on the door. 8. remove the rest of the door panel.

Door locked shut

Many interior panels have additional screws running along the bottom and sides of the panel. They are normally visible and easily accessible when the door is wide open. Compare this first with the right side door of your vehicle.

The key area to look for is any screw that holds the side of the panel. When you remove this (exhausting all patience and guile :-D), you can force off the interior panel rail along the window. The small gap can afford you or an automotive locksmith access to the locking mechanism and open the door.

Hope this helps.

How to remove interior door panel on a 1997 caravan with ower windowq

Start by removing the negative battery cable from the battery. Then locate and remove the screws that hold the interior door handles in place (they may be hidden by snap in, or snap on covers). Once you have removed the interior door handles, disconnect the wire clips that go to your window and door lock controls.
I personally use a small pry bar to remove the interior door panel; it is held in by plastic snap clips. Try to get as close to, or directly under the snap clips as possible with your pry bar to prevent them from tearing out of the door panel. Once you have released the snap clips, pull the panel upward to remove it. Install in reverse.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

Mini one

Door panels should be 4 T-30 screws. one is behind the door reflector. just pry this out with a screw driver. then the other two are 2/3's the way twards the inside of the door. then the last one is inder the arm rest get a dull butter knife and slide the knife in the middle of the arm rest between the armrest and door handle. the armrest should slide forward toward the knife. Apply some force do not pull out slide forward. then remove the last screw from behind the armrest and remove the door panel. Just door panel clips remain. Grab the panel and pull it will just pop pff.

Replace speakers on Ford Explorer Sport Trac

The front and rear door panels must be removed. The interior door handle will have to be removed, and the power window switch will also have be removed. This is held in by metal clips that secure it to the door panel. Do not be afraid to use a little force to get under the switch panel, and pry it from the door panel. Once you have all accessories off of the door panel, look for what may appear to be "plugs" in the door panel. These may conceal the presence of a screw. Also, check around the interior door pull for screws or "plugs". When this is done, use a medium to large screwdriver, or a trim removal tool, and start prying the door panel away from the door. Start at the bottom, and work your way around the door, until you get about 2-3 inches from the top of the panel where it meets the window. When you are at this point front and rear, simply lift up on the door panel, and it should come off easily. Once the panel is removed, you will easily find the speakers.
